Guest guest
I sent a letter to the head of my program to discuss how some assinments are hard cause of my deafblindness and how I would like some educational guidence but now tomorrow I have to talk to her and convince her that Im able to do placements, just some assinments (basicaly the environment raiting scale) are too hard to compleat with my visual imparement. GOD I HATE THESE IDIOTS!!!!! sorry but my college is full of narrowminded stoneage pricks who just cant comprehend how a dissabled person can possibly work. They are unacommidating. I need carreer and educational guidence, not someone telling me why I shouldnt do a certain program. I want them to tell me what I SHOULD do, not what I shouldnt. So basicaly the outcome of tomorrow could mean i may be kicked out of the ECE program at Mohawk. Im so mad. I need help!! Guest guest
Chantelle- You are totally NOT an idiot!!!! I'm not sure I have good advice. I think you just want to calm yourself down between now and then. Focus on what you need and what you can do. Don't let the person turn the conversation around to what you can't or shouldn't do. I hope someone with a better handle on this kind of thing will jump in here with just the right advice to get you through that meeting. In the meantime, do whatever works to calm yourself when you are frustrated. Hugs- Michele W
Guest guest
Hi Chantelle, This person works for Ball State University a college in Indiana as a disability coordinator, he also is Blind. cetaylor@... His first name is and he may be able to give you some guidance on what students there do? Just a thought Kim/Michigan Im an idiot NEED ADVICE ASAP warning RANT. Guest guest
Ive just been told to talk to accidemic advizing. I wish thats where my teacher told me to go, not tell the department head! grrrr. But, as for the raiting scale, im going to have to brave it and hope the daycare i choose dosnt mind if i fudge the whole thing. My one center is fairly good so i may just give them a really good raiting on everything just so I can get the stupid thing filled out. What daycare is going to accept that a deafblind person will go in to do this raiting scale anyways. It requires me being there all day and interviewing the teacher. I just hope i can make an appointment to be in the class all day plus talk to the teacher and book my intervenor to come with me to give me visual and auditory information. im looking at the scale now that im a little less overwhelmed. Gosh 43 seperate scales is a lot, but they are grouped together wich is good. Maby I need to ask the same place i did my previous observations on the kids. I know that room well so if i can be at the same place, that would help make sertain scale criteria easear to rate as I all ready know the basic layout of the room. My only other option is doing this at say a daycare that is familiar with children with dissablities so they probably will be more accepting of a college student coming in to do the observation Now i also have to figure out how to explain what I will need told, wich auditory info and wich visual. I hope my my intervenor is up to me asking direct questions about what is going on in the room. I know I wont be able to book my intervenor for the whole day, that wont be too bad. as long as its not the same day i have class. I really find how she talks to me, her voice is like she is talking to a little kid. Its irritating but I will think about it this way, only 4 more weeks of this particular intervenor. Guest guest
Dear Chantelle, I just got home and as it is a little late on your side of the continent, I wanted to send my support to you. Guest guest
This is a great idea to talk to academic advising. It sounds like this is a place that will understand your deafblindness in terms of how it affects your academics. Sometimes this kind of service is available through student services. The people in student services should be able to write out accommodations. This can vary from college to college and university to university. Usually the type of support you are looking for is under the broad heading of dean of students. You are definitely a bright young woman. I hope that the accomodations that will help you in this course are forthcoming soon. Sometimes accomodations could give you more time to complete the assignment, or someone to assist in the project. Your idea to use the same place you did previous observations is excellent! Best luck, Chantelle. I hope all goes well at the meeting tomorrow! As pointed out, accomodations are legal entitlements.
