Guest guest
Hi ladies....well my count down has started. After discovering I had breast cancer this past July, biopsy after biopsy, lumpectomy, and radiation prep....I decided to go ahead with the mastectomy. It is scheduled for Monday January 29th and the nerves are starting to go into overdrive. THe mastectomy is being performed on my right breast, but I am having reconstructive surgery at the same time, so hopefully it won't be as traumatic. My Dr. is urging me to schedule 2 weeks off of work, but I am determined to be back in 1...even if its jsut going back part time that second week. Is there anyone on here who has gone through a mastectomy and reconstruction at the same time that can give me some advice on what to expect? Guest guest
I had a mastectomy with a tissue expander, on the right breast, I might add. If you are right handed, that can be a problem. I had complicatons, that most do not. Dispite that I managed to put in a large garden about 6 weeks later. If you are having reconstruction with your own tissue you will definitely need more than a week to heal. Ruth > > Hi ladies....well my count down has started. Guest guest
HI Ruth - Yes - they are doing the resonstruction on my right side with a tissue expander, and putting a normal implant on the left side - also, yet I am right handed. I sit at a desk and do computer work for the most part for my job with just a little bit of walking around. What is the hardest part of the recovery? When could you drive again - or normal day to day activities? My work is only 2.5 miles from me so I don't have far to drive. > > > > Hi ladies....well my count down has started. Guest guest
I don't know about the mastectomy, but if you are having reconstruction, you must take the time off. I had the reconstruction after a quadrantectomy and I took a whole month. During this time there is a lot we cannot do with our arms if we want for the surgery to go and look fine. Think about it.
