Even Synthroid gets it..

Sorry, can not find it on line but saw the new update medical insert

for Synthroid. Hopefully the docs get it..as it is printed on all the

new posters, inserts etc..

TSH is not a good indication of thyroid function and TT4 or if

available FT4 should be used to monitor any one on Synthroid

replacement hormone with the goal of keeping the patient in the upper

1/2 end of the range in which symptoms are elevated.

When treating with Synthroid TSH can lag behind as much as 2-3 months

and for some even longer.

Somebody pinch me..the makers of Synthroid who pay big bucks to teach

docs how to prescribe thier meds finally got something right..or at

least a lot closer to right..this means within a 1 -2 year period we

hopefully should not hear anyone saying I am on Synthroid my TSH is??

or my T4 is just at the bottom of the range and the doc says I am fine..

Not saying this is perfect..but they make the meds and they tend to

teach the guidelines on prescribing the meds and they even say TSH is

useless..so this is a big step..

Huh? Huh? This is a dream, right? I didn't just read that Synthroid is

finally admitting that the test that they came up with to qualify their

product is not accurate?

Okay... everyone line up and form a circle... we're patting each other on

the back... ready... pat pat pat..

TSH has been the 'standard of care' for thyroid screening and following

up since the inventors of Synthroid came up with the T4 product over 60

years ago!!!

I'm gonna be vain, for all of us, and say it's because it's us, saying to

the docs that we feel like crap, we need to get the right testing and the

right time frames and the right follow up to feel better....

Considering up to now Synthroid's whole ad campaign is to just push

'we're the newest, we're the best, we're the only one that exists, Armour

isn't made anymore' This is just a huge step to finally say something

about quality....

I'm just gonna lay on the floor a while till the shock wears off.

If anyone can find this online.... or get a hold of it in print,

anywhere, with source.. We need it so that folks can print it out and

take it to their docs when they go for appointments.. this is that HUGE!

T'would have been even huger if they'd left of the Total T4 part...

but... I'm still pretty wow'd

Is that true? I never had a TSH test until about 15 years ago and it sounded like it was newer. I remember the doc drawing pictures of the pituitary etc. and explaining it to me. Before that, I had T4 and T3 uptake or something like that. I was in Canada though... Judy

Never mind, I found it. TSH came in late 60's, so you can see how long it took docs to trust it, and probably how long it will take then to step up to the new info.

Hi Judy,

TSH is usually the FIRST initial screen they do to check thryoid but my docs went for T3F, T4F and antibodies as well as ultrasound and uptake scans right off the bat.
