Guest guest
You probably should go to the emergency room. Sounds like you need IV antibiotics to me. Your doctor doesn't seem to be taking this seriously enough. Just my humble opinion, I have lymphedema also but have managed to keep it under control through therapy and being very careful with my arm. I'll be praying for you to get better soon. Guest guest
Hello, Sorry to tell bad news, but this also a cautionary note for those 25% who suffer from lymphoedema. My arm has been swollen, but not so bad and I manage with lymphatic drainage. Well, on Thursday I began to feel bad and by 8 pm I had a fever and my arm had red spots and they kept growing. And it hurts. I couldn't sleep well and had to take a sleeping pill. The next morning I had a 102 F fever. My husband, he was freaking out, called my doctor (the one I want to change) and he prescribed some antibiotics. My arm, at this point was more swollen, hurting like hell, all red and the redness was going up towards my armpit. The doctor wanted a CBC and another test. Done and went to the doctor: diagnosis is erysipelas. I never heard of this in my life!! Heavy antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory, but I am still running a 102.5 fever. I am hurting all over now. Why does fever causes back pain? Anyway, tomorrow I will call the doctor again and tell him I still fell bad. My arm now has small pustules, it is horrible! The interesting thing is how I got this infection. A very tiny abrasion on my elbow. I didn't even fell it! So, to all of you who have lymphoedema, be more than very careful with your arms. Hugs When is all this ever going to stop?? ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ No need to miss a message. Get email on-the-go with Yahoo! Guest guest
Wow, . I had never heard of erysipelas, either, and from what I read, it is pretty rare. Thank goodness your doctor was on top of it, though. It is scary to think such tiny things can cause so much trouble! Hope you are feeling better soon. > > Hello, > > Sorry to tell bad news, but this also a cautionary note for those 25% who suffer from lymphoedema. > My arm has been swollen, but not so bad and I manage with lymphatic drainage. Guest guest
Oh, , I am so sorry that you are going through this. Hope you get better soon. Your question about when does this all stop---I don't know. I am still going through swelling and trying to get back the range of motion in my left arm. I would love the answer to that question, too. I do know that each day does get a little better. There definitely are challenges, that is for sure. Take care. I pray that God will touch your arm and heal in thoroughly. Guest guest
Oh, , I am so sorry. I had cellulitis, years ago and my arm doubled in size. I was pumped full of antibiotics and the whole thing was caused by a bug bite I didn't even feel, so I know a little of whatyou are going through. Keep on top of it and make sure the doc follows through. Hope you have a new one soon. Guest guest
- I have heard of this, my Mom experienced much of the same type of thing but I believe it was called something different and now with major chemo-brain I can't think of the name. But she got the infection from a tiny cut on her finger and it spread throughout her whole arm. It took some time to clear it up as I remember and she was hospitalized for it. Hope you get to feeling better soon. Hugs! Guest guest
>Hi : Holy cow!!!! I agree with Pam---you need to get some aggressive intervention!! The erysipelas is just another name for cellulitis of the dermis; but with the redness going up towards your armpit it sounds like ascending lymphangitis... the infection and inflammation traveling towards your axillary lymph nodes. I hope you get some major antibiotics and physical therapy for lymphatic drainage. With such a high temp. I'm surprised that you didn't get hospitalized. I would also suggest going to the ER! Best of luck, Anne V. > Hello, > > Sorry to tell bad news, but this also a cautionary note for those 25% who suffer from lymphoedema. > My arm has been swollen, but not so bad and I manage with lymphatic drainage. Guest guest
Awwwww , I'm so sorry to hear that...I think the body aches from fever tends to go especially hard in the areas where there is weakness to begin with...I know what you mean about the back. Please take it easy honey, and make sure to thank that wonderful guy of yours for " freaking " out and taking control! You've got a winner!!
