Guest guest
Don, I think what you are doing is great. However NR Skills testing is all about money and only if it is convenient to the tester. If there was a Lemon Law that pertained to NR and this whole process, there would be no question that NR is a Lemon in Texas. Its apparent that no one wants to admit that Texas made a mistake. It has been said that the state did not have the money to continue due to budget cuts. Well the money is there. The wrong cuts were made. There appears to be a trend in Government to farm out their responsibility no matter how poor the product they get in return so long as they can still retain collections of fees. Don, I think your are a drop in the bucket towards fixing the problem, while well intended it will produce little impact. Henry Barber Re: NR Woes, Ad Infinitum Wes What about the school you took your EMT -I at? Will your coordinator not do an exam site? Exam sites don't just pop up it takes alot of people willing to come and use a day they have off. I try to have one at the end of my semesters if I can get enough instructors to pool together. I try to mostly have open test sites but because of not having enough examiners (that will not be here for free) its hard to test over 25 people for me here. at least. Guest guest
Henry: The real trend in government is Enron Accounting. Look at any large government agency's budget and you'll see a zillion different funding sources. The senior bureaucrats and the politicians play shell games with the money to balance the budget with " no new taxes. " Hence the money from the " General Revenue " fund gets replaced with occupational licensing fees put into " dedicated accounts. " It's a giant shell game and it's all going to come crashing down one of these days. (These accounting games also explain our governor's fetish for toll roads.) As for NR, they are just profiting from this. At this point, they know they have the state by a certain piece of anatomy and we're all just along for the ride. Unfortunately, it's a damned expensive ride. -Wes Re: LEMON LAW Don, I think what you are doing is great. However NR Skills testing is all about money and only if it is convenient to the tester. Guest guest
There may be some merit to what you say, Henry, about the process. But, I do not know if everyone thinks NR was a big mistake (?) - there's sure more than enough that do. Enough to be quite concerned. I've been in the concerned group for a long time but, in the meantime, we have a method we have to see work and we have graduates that we have to help. I sincerely feel for frontier folks that, to get tested, have to see such hassles, expenses, and drives to get this done. I have no idea as to a better answer for them. And they're volunteers in some cases. My sympathies for them for sure. But, for a bigger part of the state - it is somewhat expensive to drive places and pay fees on an EMS income but it HAS to be done. The expense is usually there whether the students drives or the exam comes to them. Someone's got expenses. Other allied health field graduates do these things and we have to too. If the availability of medics (and EMTs) gets too poor we may see the providers in the future offering to pay for skills testing as an incentive to draw applicants. Who knows? But it's here.....gotta make it work. I see nothing happening by complaining. We get a new process (yea right) or we make the one we have work. Guest guest
Thank you for the compliment. I think that we have a real problem with NR when it comes to customer service. I have had numerous student complaints that were really a very easy fix on NR's part. I believe that we can make a difference but we have to work together to get things done. I wish that we could do the confirmation of skills at the advanced level like we do at the Basic level. That would be the simplest, least expensive, and most customer friendly way to go. >>> " Henry Barber " 4/10/2007 12:47 PM >>> Don, I think what you are doing is great. The squeaky wheel does get the grease. I realize it is here to stay but don't have to like it. I might get the reputation as a complainer but would also like to have the reputation of using common sense. It doesn't appear that any was used before giving us up to NR.
