I've lost track of who was just starting their radiation recently with the flood

of e-mails there for awhile, but it seemed like there were quite a few and I

just wanted to tell you all about this great info site:

http://www.breastcancer.org And also to tell you to be sure to use whatever

your radiation nurse suggests from the very beginning; don't wait for signs of

burning. I'm at the end finally (you will get there too!) and the nurse said

my skin is in excellent condition. I know part of that is just plain ole pot

luck, but I think a great deal of it is also that I kept at it from day one. I

also used 99% aloe vera gel (took it with me and put it on immediately after

treatment) and used it several times a day besides the lotion (also several

times a day). Good luck to all, let me know if I can be of any help. Peace and

love, Cealy

I concur with that. I started to put on my aloe vera gel on the first

day of treatment and even the techs were saying how good the skin

looked. I finished my treatment last Thursday.

If I can do it then anyone can do it.

Hi ,

Well of course you're nervous sweetie, who wouldn't be? But you'll be amazed

at how fast you are out of that office today! It honestly takes longer to

undress and dress again than the treatment takes! The only thing you'll hear or

feel is the sound of the machine for maybe 20 seconds in each position. I only

got it two times a session since my lymph nodes were clean. I'm not sure how

long it actually was, but I counted 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, and somedays

I'm sure I was faster than others! Peace and love, Cealy

Hi I started radiation on 1/10/07. When I asked them what I could

use on my skin I was told, " When you need something we will give it

to you. " Not very helpful, was it? So far I don't see any redness.

I am feeling very tired though.

Hugs,

I was tired from the get go too! Really tired as it went on. My last

day is tomorrow. I was given Auqaphore the beginning of my second

week. Hate to say this, but if you say you feel a little tender, they

may give you something. I used the Auqaphore every night before bed

and then after radiation and to tell the truth, I have had no

problems. Sure, I turned red, a little aches and pains and some

tenderness in the nipple area, but nothing major. I wore the mens

wife-beater shirts all day and to bed, and found that helped a great

deal with keeping things secure cause the shirts are sort-of tight,

but soft. But letting things air out at night is helpful if you are

fuller breasted. The main area that got red was under my breast and

from what I heard, that area can get pretty bad if not careful. Dont

use hot water and use a mild antibacterial soap like Dial. Honestly,

I was expecting alot worse from stories I heard, but heres a good

story.... It's not so bad...smile!!!

I finished my rads this week.I put on Aquaphor from the very beginning.

I was told not to put any lotions or deodorant (Crystal deodorant is

what I am using) before treatments because the lotions can affect the

radiation waves. I took a cosmetic purse with me filled with Aquaphor,

and Biafine cream, which the oncologist gave me into the dressing room

to put on immediately after treatment. The Biafine cream is a

prescription cream which is less greassy and it worked fine. I had

radiation dermitis- little bumps which itched horribly and it cleared it

up almost immediately. I am fair skinned. Otherwise I had no problems.

Try not to wear a bra and air yourself out when ever possible- it helps.

I am still peeling and healing- but it is bearable. And yes- you will

find yourself more tired than usual.

Good Luck and ((((hugs))))
