Guest guest
Ok, so last night I was watching television and I could feel my pulse, so I decided to count. I was very relaxed, so it should have been near resting. The count? 50! What is up with that? How am I going to get anything moving, including my weight, with a heartrate of 50? Is this thyroid relate? Do I need more hormone? I'd like to tell you that I'm in athletic shape and that's why it's down there, but I'm not going to lie to all y'all LOL. Any thoughts?... Guest guest
Well Judy: You don't mention what you are taking in the way of hormone. but low pulse could be from lack of hormone. I'd be interested in seeing your next bloods... You just changed what you were taking..a few weeks ago right? ~E:)Judy P wrote: Ok, so last night I was watching television and I could feel my pulse, so I decided to count. Guest guest
Yes, I did just change it. And I tried to slip a bit of Armour back in again yesterday. It just seems to make me more hypo, so I give up on that. I was taking 100mcg Levo and today I took 150mcg, so we'll see what that does for me. Tomorrow, I'll start 125mcg daily for a while and keep monitoring my heart rate and other things. I'll make sure to get a good 6 weeks of consistent medication before my next labs in April. It's always been low normal at around 60bpm, so I was surprised that it had dropped so much. Thanks E... Judy I'd be interested in seeing your next bloods... Guest guest
My heart rate was that low when I was off hormone for nearly three years, remember I have no gland function.. they killed it off... With a pulse rate that low your blood isn't moving through your body quickly enough to keep your body warm or oxygenated, or carry away the waste materials (toxins and carbon dioxide) from muscle, and organ, function. It also means that your digestion is most likely just as slow. Did you know that our digestive tracts have their own 'pace maker'? Yep... it regulates the rhythmic movement of the stomach and the intestines, helping us to break down food (along with stomach acid) and move it through the intestines where the nutrients are absorbed and the fluid levels balanced.... I'd venture to say that your hormones are too low.... IMHO of course.... Once I got my meds and starting working the levels up I got my heart rate back up to a healthy 70 - 72. With my having to cut back on meds, and then running out this summer, my heart rate dropped again... got as low as 60... it's up to 65 now again.... soon it will be back up to normal.... Something to keep in mind.... having a healthy pulse rate and being able to maintain proper basal body temp means that our bodies are also burning more fuel to maintain all that muscle function and body temp..... so it's easier to maintain a healthy weight.... Guest guest
Right on, that's what I was thinking too. I'm going to start monitoring that and my temperature again and work my med up accordingly. What would you recommend as dose increases and time in between for someone on synthetic T4? As a reminder, before the Armour thing, I had been on 100mcg Levo for decades. If I start the 125mcg tomorrow, how long should I wait to monitor those two things and decide if I need an increase? The digestion thing makes sense too, and although I'm not extremely constipated, I am now back to every other day instead of every day, and quite frankly, I don't like that. I have had weight problems all of my life, sometimes because of overeating, and sometimes not. I'm in Overeaters Anonymous now, so my appetite and brain are quiet, but I'm still stuck in the 190's and it doesn't look like it will budge any time soon. I did lose a few pounds when I went back to the Levo, but I'm stuck again. Thanks ... Guest guest
Judy: You are looking for comments? LOL:) As you know by now...I'm no expert, but I have taken both the t4 and the Armour and kinda have a feel for how they both work. I think Topper is correct that you are likely running too low with the hormone there. I'd say that if you add, 25 mcgs to your current 100 mcgs...you will see a change in two weeks. I would wait a full 3 and a half weeks before you EVEN think about adding more..... RED flag -- you report feeling more hypo after that little armour experiment... THIS should make your more catious with making any kind of drastic move with adding more hormone..t4 or t3. Okay Judy??? You are taking Maca...are you not? I am of the belief, that when you are taking something that affects your thyroid hormone....like maca...you NEED to be extra watchful and CAREFUL to be consistent. Okay??? T4 can creep up on you real fast and tip you over if you are not real careful. I'm always MORE worried about going over..since doubling back...CAN take a long time to get 'round to. Its really no shortcut. YES...the idea of monitoring your basals and pulse on a daily basis whenever we do changes is PARTICULARLY important too, so this is an excellent idea. I know you are gonna get this thing solved, and these days will be behind you soon. You just have got to be patient and VERY particular about all these little pesky things. Good luck! ~E:)Judy P wrote: Right on, that's what I was thinking too. I'm going to start monitoring that and my temperature again and work my med up accordingly. Guest guest
That's great E. I think I have the info to go on now. I wasn't sure if the Levo increases were as volatile and the Armour ones can be, but I hear you and that's exactly what I'll do. I'll run out if I do much more anyway, but I want to find a place before I go back to the doc and 'fess up about everything. If I'm still flailing, it would be hard to convince her of what I want to do. So that's set for now. I am taking Maca, but I've been taking that for about 4 years now and it's consistent, so I'll make sure I keep it that way so that my labs will be consistent with that additive. I put it in my morning shake about 4 hours after my meds. Ya, I don't know what my body does with that direct T3, but it seems to say "ok, let's shut everything else down". I'm not going to play with it any more and I'll see what my labs come up with on the straight Levo. I've got 2 months to go before I see her, so I'll decide one month from now whether to increase it or not, so that I have at least 6 weeks on that dose before the labs. My TX doc was going to raise me to 150mcg just before the Armour trials and so I only took that dose for a few days. So I'm going to go to 1.25 tomorrow, all in one dose in the morning, and see how that goes. I've been doing the 100mcg for about a month now, and the lower heart rate and temps tell me that it's not quite enough. I've cut out all sugars and simple starches in the past 3 months too and that may be having an effect. I know there is a sugar/thyroid connection, but I don't remember exactly what it is. I remember reading that sugar/chocolate/caffeine stimulate the thyroid and give it a false sense that it's working or something bizarre like that. I'll see what I can dig up on that too.
