ITs hard to describe, but I'll try. Its like I wind up taking a series of shallow breaths and they just keep coming like I'm hyper- ventilating or panting like a dog or something. It more like a series of hard sighs... I don't know if my lungs are just feeling tight..and that is why..or if this is a recovery from hypo thing. I am wondering if this for you has ever been a hyper sign. NO...I don't have asthma...or anything like that. I DO like to sleep with the windows open because if I don't I get head congestion and a migraine. ~E:)
Guest guest
is there something in your room that you are allergic to? dust mites perhaps? do you have a mold/mildew problem? do you have a vent/register close to your bed for heat? i'm interested to see why the fresh air helps. we started having breathing problems at night when we were in our bedroom & it was because of mildew... it got so bad we had to move. hopefully, you'll just say it's because you like the sound of the rain drops LOL.. andrea breathing topper Topper:About two months ago, I started ths wierd breathing thing, I only noticed when going to bed at night. Guest guest
Having shortness of breath and heart palpitations is a symptom of HYPERthyroid. If you are on thyroid medicine, you may need to have your dose checked. It may need to be adjusted. In the meantime, your doctor might want to prescribe a beta-blocker (Tenormin, Inderal) to reduce the heart palpitations. This was one of the reasons why I had the ablation because I was severely HYPERthyroid (Graves) and my heart was racing too much--even on the beta-blockers. Since the RAI, the palpitations have subsided, somewhat and I'm able to sleep better. Hope this helps. Guest guest
: Without fresh air...I think my head gets conjested. I have tested positive for allergy to dustmites, mold, cat dander, and grass. I think the dust is really the culprit when I'm stuck in a room too long without some decent ventilation. I seem to do better in the cold weather if I have a humidifier on...so I can keep the air heavy enough to not float around too much. In the summer, I need to have the AC on..or a window open with the fan blowing. Forced air heat seems to be a huge problem for me. Any kind of smoke is just killer too. ~E:) Teague wrote: is there something in your room that you are allergic to? dust mites perhaps? do you have a mold/mildew problem? do you have a vent/register close to your bed for heat? i'm interested to see why the fresh air helps. we started having breathing problems at night when we were in our bedroom & it was because of mildew... it got so bad we had to move. hopefully, you'll just say it's because you like the sound of the rain drops LOL.. andrea breathing topper Topper:About two months ago, I started ths wierd breathing thing, I only noticed when going to bed at night. Guest guest
Thanks for responding dorothy! I have been taking time out to really think about this because, I think its kinda important. I remember now, that when I was having a terrible time getting/staying asleep I went to the sleep center. I remember feeling this way..then. I remember it was like a contrictor feeling. Funny how about a month ago...I had a dream where a boa constrictor got me...AND I woke up punching my sheets. Hmmmmnnnnn. I think you are right. A little over medicated. BUT....which part is over medicated? I have just pushed my t4 up and my t3 downward. THIS turned out to resolve a lot of the FIBRO pains...WHICH feels like a freaking miracle right now. The massive dizziness I got during the adjustment over the last two months..has finally started to resolve too. So..now the heart palpy-racey, breathing thing..needs some attention. Maybe..if I just lower the t3 a smidge? I've considerd that. Still thinking. Its just that if I do that...I'll be taking only 71 mcgs of synthetic and 45 mgs of Armour. Together that would be like taking less than 100 mcgs of t4...and I'm wondering how the bloods would look (the numbers are by my own calculations..not by everyone elses, I know...please don't flame my numbers). Will I still have the supressed TSH? Maybe I'm worried too much..maybe this is really the only thing to try, even if it seems on some level..wrong? I've thought about getting tested first...so I can guage if that would be a good idea. Hmmmnnnn. It has been fifty days or so. Thanks again.. ~E:) dorothyleftoz wrote: Having shortness of breath and heart palpitations is a symptom of HYPERthyroid. If you are on thyroid medicine, you may need to have your dose checked. Guest guest
I honestly don't remember much in the way of breathing problems when I was hyper or during storm. I did have a choking/coughing thing.. that was from the goiter. When BAD Hypo I've had breathing problems... shallow breathing, breathing stopping (having to THINK about breathing to get it to start again. It was my breathing stopping like that in '02 that pushed me to self treat in fact). Right now I make a conscious effort, as many times as I can a day, to do some serious deep slow breathing. Just to keep my lungs flushed out... I have been teased though.. It seems that when I'm running around doing chores, being up and moving around the house.. I sigh a lot.. Ruth teases me about my forelornededness in my sighs all the time... I wonder if that is a breathing thing (or my frustration with my living situation). Don't really know for sure. Are you doing anything in particular when you have these 'episodes'? Guest guest
I still have a lot of trouble with the furnace (forced air heat) here.. but I'm still not sure how much of it is being enclosed and how much is cuz it's always kept so hot in the house. When the furnace is turned down I'm okay.. during winter vacation I had the furnace set below 65 during the day and below 60 over night and I was quite happy. Windows were kept closed. When the folks got home it got cranked back up to 78 during the day, which puts this room into the 80s, and 74 over night.. so I'm back to being stuffy. I keep the windows at least cracked in here (small room with heat register open makes it warmer, plus the computers and TV makes it warmer still). In my bedroom I refuse to open the heat register so it's more comfortable in there... cool enough for my water glass to be rather chilled by morning... And that is with windows closed. I've been home alone during the day for a for a bit over a week... so the temp has been set at 71, with sub zero temps outside.... that is easier on me... but again, is this all cuz of the heat or cuz of the recycled air?? I prefer fresh air... but is that cuz of the air quality in the house, of from all the years that I had outdoor jobs and hobbies and now I'm stuck in the house all time?? Guest guest
Trying to break things down and isolate them into categories, helps me... though I still get confused. Okay... air quality.... Dealing with forced air heat... the variables are humidity, recycled air, allergens. You are in an apartment... are you sure it's forced air and not radiator? Just making sure.... Humidity drops in the winter, lower humidity makes it harder to breathe the air, it causes us to lose more moisture from our bodies through the air exchanged involved in breathing and from our own skin. It just doesn't show up as sweat like it does in the summer time. So hydration in the winter is important. You can drink more water and/or add more moisture to the air... Humidifier, or a pan of water by the hot air registers, a pan of water simmering on the stove (be careful with that, low heat, never let it run out... it should only be warm water, not bubbling or boiling). When it's really bad and I'm stuff I will take my plant mister bottle and wander around the room misting stuff... all day long.. bringing up the humidity in the room that I am in..... it's what I have to use.. it's a proactive thing.. a positive thing. Increasing humidity decreases dust, so somewhat decreases air borne allergens.. but it depends on how sensitive you are to them. We know that your adrenals are not happy.. that affects how your body responds to allergens. These things, dust mites, etc. affect us all.. but more in some and very little in others.. so it's how our bodies are able to cope with and react to these 'things'. Some folks have absolutely no sensitivity to them and could care less.. others go nuts with them floating around... Tracking resting pulse and waking temp, for me, has been the best way to know how my body is responding... if my pulse rate shoots up and I know there is a problem with my dose... it's happened a couple of times when I pushed too fast for an increase and my body couldn't take it... I started showing hyper symptoms... heat intolerance, elevated pulse, anxiety and panic attacks... backing off the dose and allowing my body to re acclimate and then going with a SMALLER increase allowed me to work through that stage and continue on.... some of my increases had to be 12 weeks apart to allow for my body to do that... it's all individual. You're also dealing with those drated antibodies... you, I would venture to guess, have to keep a closer eye on what your body is doing. Remember to keep in mind, too, that when you drop direct T3 that will have an affect on you now.... increasing T4 won't affect you much now, but will in a month to six weeks as your body increases conversion and is converting those higher levels of stored T4 into the T3 that your body uses.... the delayed cause and effect of T4... the storage hormone... Important to remember that. You know I'm sleep challenged MUCH of the time here.... has to do with other inconsiderates, just like you... Trying to find ME time helps me with that, to a degree, doesn't make up for lack of sleep, but eases up some of the stress involved with the anger and being crapped on causes. Oh... hey.. that reminds me.. was it you that I was gabbing with about writing and MAC? I think I found a writing program for you, on the order of the one that I found for me.... holler at me directly, email, and I'll grab the link again.... Anyway... finding a way to do a nurturing thing for yourself.. to allow your body to de stress and level out the hormones seems to be a huge help... as I said, to me. I was doing that this weekend, it's how I found that program, cuz I needed to do some ME stuff to make up for a crappy weekend here.... I try to get involved in a project that is positive and gives a feeling of accomplishment.. It doesn't have to be anything really profound... you don't have to go all overboard with it.... it can be a simple as a long soak in a bubble bath... relaxing, soothing, just for yourself, and helps with the skin, warms the body... relieves tension... it's all perspective.... My latest challenge is that the auxiliary tank we have for the laundry room is frozen with all this subzero weather. So.. no laundry... Two options.. stress out over it, wondering how long till the weather eases up and the line opens up.. then try to catch up and washing stuff.... or...... I have a small tub that I use for hand washing things between major laundry days... It only holds a few pieces... I decided to find the positive... I threw a couple of shirts in my mini tub last night, with a wee bit of laundry soap... sloshed them around a bit and let them soak over night... Took a whopping five minutes this morning to slosh them around some more, wring them, rinse them, wring them and now they are hanging in the shower dripping... in a few hours they will be past the drip stage and just wet.. then they will go hang in the bedroom... What will that accomplish? Two shirts that are clean, not dirty. I feel like I have 'beat' the frozen line for today AND I am humidifying the bedroom for tonight's sleeping.... I will be doing that, as needed, just a couple of peaces at a time, till that line thaws and we can use the washer again... thank goodness my clothes are all simple stuff and can line dry, and I don't go through a lot (don't have a lot). I'll be able to keep it up and make it a positive thing. Yeah.. it's lame... it's not profound.. but it's a way of turning around a stress... less stress, better adrenal function, better thyroid hormone utilization and conversion and the body is working toward healing instead of just dealing.... I am thinking I would do labs first if possible..for some the racing heart can also come as sugar levels drop... have you increased your calorie intake since you increased meds and have been feeling better? Sounds silly but if you are feeling better, doing more things then you need more calories to be able to do it all. Kats3boys

You're also dealing with those drated antibodies... you, I would venture to guess, have to keep a closer eye on what your body is doing. Well, I so surprised!!! Shocked even that your remember that detail!!! HA! I think most of my antibodies have died now though. The last check showed my anti-thryoidglobulin antibodies to be 120..but that is different than the TPO...which I haven't had checked since I had insurance a year ago. They last pegged out at something like 24. YES...I feel like I'm watching a ball that Tiger Wood hits one week and it takes weeks to get across the green... Just after I had made the my last move...I had t4/t3 transition crash...which made me maddingly lightheaded and fibroed out. Now..that thankfully went away as some of the t3 has dissolved. BUT....now I have to wonder if there is something else in the t3 train...that is in the way...or will go away? I don't really know. I know that I FEEL better than I did a couple weeks ago. I tend to focus on the progress. I'm better than a year ago. I wonder also if I need to be more active to help burn some of the hormone up during the day? If I'm just slogging through the day, instead of running and lifting weights..then maybe I'm not making the cells process it enough. Maybe the hormone is loitering in my system..making me feel kind of constricted? MAYBE...I still have too much t3? Not enough t4? Maybe the heart is getting too much t3 as it is senstive to 3 and that it really might help to peel back the 15 mgs of Armour? I worry that I did the 75/45 split once and had the bloods to go with it..AND remember it was just before I started going to the gym two years ago...so maybe its a good dose...maybe it didn't have time enough to work, because I was not sooooo particular with my dosing and bloods at the time. EVERYTIME...I go to make a change...I wonder if it will make me worse or better? LOL:) You know I'm sleep challenged MUCH of the time here.... has to do with other inconsiderates, just like you... Topper!!! THAT is so cool!! You are like Edison or something! I wish I was as handy as you are! E:) . Guest guest
GW: My migraines...are so related to my head congestion, that I used to think it was just allergies and sinus headaches. No big deal right? I took clariten for years, with doctors appointments. I was ALWAYS getting one big headache...then just when I would recover two days later...with bed rest, WHAM...there it would be again... ALL over. Totally messed me up. Working and socializing was tough. So..now I know they are migraines. I get them all through the face, jaw, head and down the neck. My whole body aches, and I FEEL really oppressed. ITs terrible. If I shake my head..it hurts, as does light and sound. If I can take a hot shower and or put an ice pack on my head...that can loosen the swelling and conjestion. ~E:) G W wrote: Tell me about your migraine and head congestion. Where does it hurt?
