New Member Intro

I joined this group yesterday afternoon and I would like

to thank you for letting me being a part of your group.

I lost 24 pounds with WW in 1981. After going through

maintainance and becoming a lifetime member I let

myself slide back into my old habits of snacking on

things I had been denying myself. The program has

changed so much in those years, now I don't have to

deny myself an occasional snack.

Now 22 years later and 41 pounds heavier than my

original starting weight I am hopefully wiser and know

myself better that I will take the excess weight off and

keep it off.

That many years ago I didn't have any specific exercise

program. Having a 2, 7, 14, and 16 year old at home

+ helping dh on our dairy farm was all the exercise I

needed. Now there are no longer dairy cows nor

children to keep me active I must get real about an

exercise program. Today for the first time in a long

long time I stepped on the treadmill for a grand total

of 5 minutes. I know I have to up that to many more

minutes but it's a start.

I tried WW in a town 50 miles away about 2 years ago

but I didn't get motivated with them. Monday night I went

to the first meeting in of the year for our area. I have the

confidence this time that I can make it work.

I know it will take me a lot longer this time to get to

my goal weight. Last time it took 16 weeks. The

weight probably won't come off as fast when one

is 66 as compared to a 42 year old.

Anyway thank you guys for letting me be a part of your group.

Hi,

My name is . I live in Union County N.J. I recently had my

annual mammogram at a new radiologist's office (insurance change) and

she requested an ultrasound to follow up. There are 4 cysts in 1

breast, and she recommended a consult with a surgeon. Any advice as

to what I should be asking? There is a family history of breast

cancer in my family, although not direct lineage. My Mom's sister and

two of my dad's sisters. Also 3 cousins have been diagnosed pre-

menopause. None of the cousins diagnosed have direct lineage to the

aunts or each other either. They are the daughters of my Dad's other

siblings. So much for statistics. P.S. they are all doing well.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the group . Here are a few questions to ask your surgeon.

What type of biopsy will I have? Please explain what you will be doing.

How long will the biopsy take?

Will I be awake?

Will it hurt?

Where will you do the biopsy?

Will I be able to drive myself home?

How much tissue will be taken out?

Will you do estrogen and progesterone receptor tests before the biopsy?

Will the biopsy leave a scar?

Will it change the shape of my breast?

How soon will I know the results?

This should give you an idea of a few things to ask. I am sure some of the other

ladies can come up with some more. I will keep you in my prayers.

Hugs

Hi ,

I can't really think of any more questions to add to the ones nne gave

you, but I want to tell you about a really great website that one of the ladies

gave to me that I have found to be so useful! It's http://www.breastcancer.org

I have found so many answers here, it's an incredibly extensive site! Just keep

you eye on the box to the left because everytime you go somewhere it seems to

give more options.

Don't forget to breathe during all of this. Waiting is HARD work, in fact, I

found waiting to be the hardest. Try to find things to distract you while you

wait, watch funny movies, go out and have fun, etc., try not to sit and worry,

because it's probably not cancer anyway. And don't let anyone make you wait any

longer than absolutely necessary. I had to wait two months from the time I

found the lump (went to the gyno, had a mammo, ultrasound then biopsy) til the

time I got the news from my doc and in retrospect realize now that was way too

long - if I had been insistant it wouldn't have been so awful.

Good luck sweetie, and if you need any future help, come back to this site,

the ladies here are great resources. Peace and love, Cealy

Hi ,

I am in Bergen County, NJ. I may be wrong, but I thought " cysts "

means that they have liquid, and are not " lumps " which may be benign

or malignant. So, the surgeon may only want to drain the cysts (I

hope!). Regardless of whether lumps are cancerous or not, they

usually want to remove them, because they just do not belong in the

breast.

You'll know a lot more after you have seen the surgeon. If you are

ready to hear it, you can ask him before any test results, what it

looks like to him. My experience was that everyone who looked at me

suspected it was cancer right away, and it was.

Because of your extensive family history, you may want to aks about

getting genetic testing for BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations.

So glad you went for your mammogram!
