hi everyone -

I was just diagnosed as Ttype 2 as of June 8th. After nearly 4

months of not so subtle symptoms, I finally decided I needed to get

checked out. I had mentally prepared myself for the diagnosis (my

grandmother had had it), so it wasn't Ttoo much of a shock.

Tthe " starting " blood glucose count was 384 (ouch). Even more eye-

opening was my A1C of 13.7 (double ouch).

I was promptly put on Mmetformin, as well as new scripts for lotrel

and zocor for my BP and cholesterol woes.

After just one month, my bg count this morning was 143. It had

actually been 120 yesterday morning, but i think i " celebrated " a

relatively normal reading a tad too much. Just goes to show, you

don't have much leeway to go off the eating plan. Sheesh!

I had my one-month follow-up with the doctor this morning and she is

pleased with my progress so far. Didn't increase the meds any, which

was fine by me. I'm hoping that with what I am taking, plus getting

in more exercise with the new eating plan, I can keep myself off

insulin.

I've also managed to lose 11 pounds this past month - and have about

80 or so pounds to go. Yep - being overweight hasn't helped, but 47

years of bad habits are going to take time to change.

Glad to meet everyone and am already picking up some good tips. I

will be looking for that book you've all been talking about next time

I go to the book store.

Ttime for bed - yee-haw!
