Guest guest
My question would have to be, why was there an ambulance involved in this chase in the first place? Mike wrote: Chandler officer injured in wreck EMS crews rushed a Chandler police officer to the hospital this afternoon. The officer was chasing a car on highway 31 when the EMS unit following behind him crashed into his police car. Chandler assistant police chief Lehman was taken to a local hospital for possible broken bones. We’re told the accident is still being investigated. Guest guest
Don, Just wondering, as not often do you see an ambulance involved in an actual pursuit behind a cop car. Maybe after the fact if the wreck out. Guest guest
The ambulance was behind the police car in normal traffic when the officer spotted a suspect vehicle coming from the opposite direction and did a U turn in front of the ambulance. Neither the officer nor the ambulance were involved in any " chase " at the time. Re: Whoops! Guest guest
Worked for a service one time where my partner was a deputy. He carried his ..357 on the truck, and we actually went on a couple of chases. Of course that was back when ambulances had a 500 Cleveland under the hood, instead of these apologetic turbo-diesels.... -MH ________________________________________ From: texasems-l [texasems-l ] On Behalf Of Don Elbert [delbert@...] Sent: Monday, April 09, 2007 10:22 AM To: texasems-l Subject: Re: Whoops! Guest guest
As an officer... If the officer made a U-turn in front of the ambulance (meaning that he came from the right of the ambo), he's at fault. Happens a LOT - officers get tunnel vision and forget to double-check the blind spot. Worked a trooper that did that last year... thankfully, everyone was relatively okay. Guest guest
Sounds like an illegal turn by the cop. BTW, if you want to get an idea of how many times cops get nailed while performing those U turns, go to Austin and look at the pile of T-boned DPS cars in their motor pool. I'm surprised more of them haven't got whacked. Some of the worst driving I have ever seen is done by cops. I wonder if the cop in this case gave himself a ticket for failure to yield the right of way.
