Guest guest
Armour is the only one who makes Armour are they not? Are you saying the pharmacy gave you an entirely different med? Not sure what happened there...please fill us in. Sue Well I got out my bottle to call in my refill of Armour and noticed that the pharmacy did NOT give me Armour brand the last refill I got. The brand I got was the same size and color and I just didn't think to really look. You'd better bet I'm gonna be looking at my refill tomorrow when I pick it up!! I was NOT a happy camper when I discovered the switcheroo.
Guest guest
Forest Laboratories makes Armour, but there are other dessicated ones including a generic I think, so that may be what she got. I have the pictures of each different pill including the letters on them and I check not only the brand, but the lettering. Here's the list: All have a big 'A' and then the following letters underneath... 15MG: TC 30MG: TD 60MG: TE 90MG: TJ 120MG: TF 180MG: TG 240MG: TH 300MG: TI It's here! Guest guest
There are several generics of Armour... Time Cap Labs, that's the one that I used until I ran out, manufactured by Time Cap... located in New York, USA. Thyroid-S, manufactured in Thailand. It was the brand that was carried my Costco and several other major Pharmacies during the shortage in Armour supplies a couple or three years ago. There is another... I can't quite think of the name right now.. and I'm too lazy to go look it up... From what I've been able to find out all of them, and Nutri-Meds ( the OTC brand that I'm taking again now) are all based on the same Desiccated thyroid powder that Armour is made from.. it's just that they all use slightly different tableting agents. It's those extra, different, ingredients that change how our bodies are able to utilize the different brands. Some folks body's are very particular about some of the tableting agents, some aren't. Having tried so many of them, right now Armour has the sweetest tasted, and dissolves the cleanest... Time Caps has a coating on it, you need to split the pills to get a good dissolve rate when you dose sublingually. Thyroid S tastes the worst... and the one that I can't think of the name of right now looks and tastes the same as Armour, but not as sweet.... but, of course, has different stamp codes on the tablets. But it's important to remember that if you change brands you should have a follow up lab run in 4 to 6 weeks to see how your body is responding to the change in brand, and therefore tableting agents. It's why I'm on four types right now.. rather than have to futz each time I have to change brands I'm taking some of each daily... to make my routine more consistent until we self treaters can find a new source. I cant seem to get diagnosed as hypo with my low FT's and a TSH of 2.3 and am wondering if i should try the Nutri med stuff. Guest guest
Are these from a presecripion or OTC non-prescrip? I was under the impression the only actual ARMOUR is by Forest. Guest guest
The pharmacy gave me a generic version of natural thyroid and not the Armour I'd been taking. Guest guest
Nutri-meds is OTC grade, not as strong by weight as the prescription grades... all the tablets are made by different manufacturers, yes. The one that I could think of last night... I think it's Qualitest. Guest guest
The best bet is to get the doc to right Armour on th script and " no subsitutions. " When I was new to this, I was getting generics slipped to me for the first year after my TT...and didn't understand that this was one more variable that I was up against. The docs do not offer to tell you...and the pharmacy doesn't either. It can make you feel pretty enraged, when you discover the betrayal. I now have docs that follow my instructions when writing out the scripts and there in not a generic to be found in my stash. ~E:) --- JustYourTypeDTP justyourtypedtp@...> wrote: > Are these from a presecripion or OTC non-prescrip? > I was under the impression the only actual ARMOUR is > by Forest. > Sounded like she has a prescription filled recently > of some other brand... > Sue > > Day after day, day after day, We stuck, nor breath nor motion; As idle as a painted ship Upon a painted ocean. Guest guest
Sue: If the Armour you were taking really wasn't the brand name, then that could have accounted for some of the issues you had. I was on the Qualitest for a year before I realize what was going on...and I was taking five grains and the doctors were freaking out. They said only an elephant would need five grains....and that my bones would turn to glass. First...the generics are/can be much weaker than real Amour and THEY had me on birth control pills that TROUNCES the hormone I was taking in on top of that!!!! NO WONDER!!!! THEY were so incompetent...and THEY totally wrecked my recovery from surgery. JUST a few simple things that would have made the difference...and they didn't tell me. THERE I was fighting for bloods results and changing out doctors like my underwear.....AND I was horrified to find that none of them knew what they were talking about. ~E:) Day after day, day after day, We stuck, nor breath nor motion; As idle as a painted ship Upon a painted ocean. We can rule out any obstacles on that front then. I am very sorry that the Armour didn't do its magic for you. I know you had your heart set on it working. IT really isn't for everyone. You will find some will critisize the Armour-takers or the Synthetic- takers..but that is just silly. You take what you need.
