Jackie,

Aha... see? I can be the little things....

Taking the dose sublingually changes how much of the hormone your body is getting AND it speeds up how fast the T3 is getting into your blood stream.

My suggestion?

Go back to the 1 grain, take it sublingually, that will be your increase this time... wait for a few weeks, to see how much of an affect the change in how you are taking it is... if you are handling things okay by then, then you can increase by the additional 1/2 grain.

When you swallow the hormone, especially if with food, less of it gets into your blood stream. Depending on your digestive tract's efficiency and absorption, if you take the dose with food, etc, you may lose as much as 79% of the hormone to binding or just not dissolving right... You were swallowing it with water only? So there the issue is just how much is not absorbed as part of the digestive tract's efficiency... so not as huge as someone that was having it with breakfast. You're still going to be getting significantly more hormone by dosing sublingually versus swallow.

Now before EVERYONE starts sticking their pills under their tongues to up the dosage.. you can't take it sublingually if you are on a T4 only synthetic (Synthroid, Eltroxin, Levoxyl, Levothroid, etc... ) they need the stomach acid to do the initial break down of the pill. During the manufacturing process of the synthetic T4 they add a sodium molecule to make the pills more shelf stable. That sodium must be removed for the hormone to be available to the body. That is what the stomach acid does, it removes that sodium molecule. If in doubt as to what type of med you are taking, check the label... if it says Levothyroxine Sodium you have to swallow it.

When you take the natural hormone (Armour, Thyroid-S, Time Cap Labs, Nutri-Meds, etc) sublingually you get nearly ALL of the hormones and it's getting into your blood a LOT faster, so the T3 is hitting you a lot harder.

That's why you've been having such a rough time with it... it was a huge increase in available hormone from your body's perspective.....

You were right on to ask questions when it wasn't feeling right for you... The oops was in changing two things at the same time (going from swallowing to sublingual AND a dosage increase)... very easy to do, that's why we keep an eye on each other here.

I was on one grain since June 06, so seven and half months-ish. I had been taking it by swallowing it whole with water, then someone said to break it up and let it dissolve under your tongue, so I made the half grain increase along with the sublingual change all at the same time.

Do I take any today?

Thank you Topper,I take it on an empty stomach, but then have coffee. Do you think it speeds it up even more with the caffeine?I'm back on one grain tomorrow, sublingually :)Hugs, JackieJackie, Aha... see? Caffeine is more of a jolt to your adrenals than anything else.

How soon after the coffee to do eat?

Yeah, that's where everyday is different depending on what is going on. Sometimes right away, sometimes hours. JackieCaffeine is more of a jolt to your adrenals than anything else. How soon after the coffee to do eat? Topper ()*keeping a watchful eye on Jackie's adrenal health* On Sat, 3 Feb 2007 00:20:59 -0800 Ken & Jackie Reimer <quest4us (AT) sbcglobal (DOT) net> writes:Thank you Topper,I take it on an empty stomach, but then have coffee.
