One week until my hysterectomy

Hi ladies,

Well, it's one week until I go under the knife AGAIN. This time it

is to have a prophylactic hysterectomy, recommended by my doctors

because I have the BRCA1 gene mutation. The doctor who is doing the

procedure is going to do a " minimally invasive " hysterectomy. Have any

of you lovely ladies had this done? I guess they do it laproscopically

and remove the uterus, ovaries, etc. vaginally. I was told the recoup

time was far less than the traditional way of doing hysterectomies.

Nevertheless, I am getting nervous about it. I just hope my body has

had enough time to heal itself from all the chemo and radiation I had

in 2006. I will be having the surgery at Magee Women's hospital in

Pittsburgh, which I am told is a very good hospital. I know some of you

ladies are from around that area and could maybe enlighten me about the

hospital. Please think about me on Jan. 22. I'll post as soon as I can

afterward and let you all know how it went. Thanks, gals!

Hi Carol,

I had a total abdominal hysterectomy with salpingo oopherectomy a few years ago

and didn't have any problems. Not much pain at all with it. So yours should be

pretty easy. I had to be careful not to lift anything for a few weeks but I

healed ok. I will keep you in my prayers.

Hugs

Dear Carol,

Yes, I had a laproscopic assited hysterectomy done two years ago. And

although the first four or five days are the hardest. I was back to work within

one week. Light duty of course, but I cannot tell you now much better I felt

afterwards. I felt like the bionic woman, wonderwoman and every other super

hero all rolled into one. You will have several little tiny incisions on you

abdomen and one in your navel. I wished after I had it done that I had went

ahead and had it done years before. Good luck to you, and I will be thinking of

you on your special day.

much hugs and prayers

Carol - Yes, I did have a hysterectomy two days before this past

Thanksgiving. I also hade the laproscopicly assisted type and I

will pass on the GREAT news that the recoop is MUCH better than a

regular hysto. I had the procedure (along with a breast re-

excision) came home the next day, didn't have to take any pain meds

(didn't need them) and was up and about in no time, a matter of

days! Still had to be careful lifting, etc. but it went extremely

well! I also had chemo and rad in 2006 so I was nervous

about " coming back " from a surgical procedure but I flew right

through it. I think you'll do just fine! I'll keep you in my

prayers for the 22nd!

Hugs!
