So, which is it? If I start a meal at a bg of 100, will it go up say to 180

before it comes down under 140? Or will it gradually climb up to it's highest

point by the end of 2 hours?

Hi ,

Based on the very few times I've tested at one hour, my bg's are higher at

one hour, then start coming down. I can test at 2 hours, have a reading of

140, then 15 minutes later, I can be down to 110. My numbers come down

quickly.

Some people that have a high number after two hours will continue to have a

high number even 3 or 4 hours later.

Just to know when your numbers are at the highest, you might want to test

occasionally at one hour, then again at 2 hours. This will give you some idea

of how fast they go up and come down.

I realized when talking to a friend today that I was confused about testing

after meals. Do we test 2 hours after a meal because that's when we would

expect to see it rise to its highest? If we tested at only 1 hours, would it

not have reached its peak yet? Or, does it peak at about 1 hour, and start

coming down after that?

So, which is it? If I start a meal at a bg of 100, will it go up say to 180

before it comes down under 140? Or will it gradually climb up to it's highest

point by the end of 2 hours?

I hope my question is clear. Thanks.

This point is where I 'blindly' accept what my health care team has told me.

They say at 2 hours I should be no higher than 140.

They never said that at 1 hour I would be over or under 140. They didn't

tell me to test at 1 hour. I've never felt like wasting the test strips to

test at 1 hour.

I think we make things much more difficult for us when we over analyze

things. I could worry about what a 1 hour reading is, but when I asked, I

was told test at 2 hours.

I figure if my fasting and 2 hour post meal readings are on target.... and

my A1C every 3 months is on target and I stick to my meal plan, I've

mastered what I need to with this disease.

I guess I like to keep it simple.

While im getting a grip on everything I am testing testing testing ... Yes I am

using more strips but im also seeing how differant foods effect me ...my doc

said test before I eat and then 2 hours after ..and that should be the spike

....BUT ...I test an hr after and then again at the 2 hr mark ...and then again

at 2 1/2 so I can make sure its coming down. To me learning how my own body

reacts and getting an idea of what I can and cant eat is worth the extra strips

..

Hello, everyone!

If I recall correctly, there's a graph in Gretchen Becker's

" Type 2 Diabetes: the first year " that shows the usual bG

pattern after eating...yes, it's on p. 66. This book is really

good for anyone trying to control with diet & exercise.

Its all american stuff but not so much numbers as just understanding the

disease ans tips to get thru it and the stages of it ...complications and so

forth ...I think anyone from any country would do well with it ...it does not

just focus on numbers so everything else would relate if u know what I mean

Hi!

I am new to this site and only 6 wks ago found out I had type 2

diabetes. I too am curious about your question.

Most of the info I have gathered is what I have read from the

interent. I am taking a class next month at my local hospital called

Diabetes Management. I will ask this question and let you know the

answer.

Cheers,

C.J.
