Guest guest
i don't know much about the paxil but i feel my baby blues are making it harder to stick to program. we need to loose the same amount of weight. i can't go to meetings either. i just try to follow the program at home. have never tried ww online costs $ although less than meetings i think.good luck and i will keep an eye out for your posts New Hello everyone, I am new to this group. My name is Rhonda, I am 48 years old and am what I consider seriously overweight. I belonged to Weight Watchers about 10 years ago. I attained goal weight then and became a life time member. A few things changed, (my job for one ) and it became impossible to attend meetingg, due to the meetings were held the same time I was working. My work and meeting times still conflict. I have been wondering about the Weight Watchers on line. Does anyone have any experience with that? One of the other problems I have is that about 2 years ago I began taking Paxil for anxiety, that is when I really packed on the wieght. Quiting Paxil is not an option for me. Just the thought of it causes anxiety, plus I tried once but became very dizzy and headachey. Any way I have about 65 pounds to lose to get back to my goal weight. Does anyone have any experience with losing weight while on Paxil? Thanks in advance for any tips or help. Rhonda
Guest guest
Hello there! As for ww on-line, I found I needed the accountability of meetings so when a meeting became available in my area I canceled my account and started attending them. Paxil, boy can I talk about that! I'm on a tiny dose but it still affects me in that when I'm tired, I eat to try to stay awake. UGH! But I will NOT stop taking it because even though I'm tired all the time, I'm functioning so much better! You will probably lose slower, due to the side effects of tiredness and an increased desire for sugary carbs, but other than that, it won't keep you from losing weight at all. I'm in my third year on it and I've bounced around quite a bit, but this year the depression and anxiety are finally in control so I'm finding it easier to control my eating, now more than anything I'm dealing with the issues, not the side effects. And it's slowly coming off. Good luck! You've found a terrific group! Message: 6 Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2005 11:11:18 -0000 Subject: New Hello everyone, I am new to this group. Guest guest
i joined this group because for years it's seemed like there might be something wrong w/my thyroid, but because the simple test always came back normal, docs wouldn't search any further. symptoms: fatigue insomnia sleep apnea (not much helped by cpap) memory probs intolerance to heat pain dx'd as fibromyalgia migraines & headaches, mostly controlled these days by gabapentin & maxalt depression & mood swings (paxil helps marginally) bowel probs w/occasional nausea hair won't grow the symptoms are ramping up to near intolerable, and i'm at my wit's end. i've begged to be referred to an endocrinologist, but the gps won't go for it. is an endocrinologist the one i want to see? or some other specialist? it's time for me to go begging again, because i'm tired of invariably being dx'd w/irritable bowel syndrome, the ravages of aging (i'm 52, not 92!) or worse, attention seeking behavior. i'm tired of being given a rainbow mix of sample meds that i know aren't going to work. and mostly i'm tired of waking up each morning dreading dragging myself through yet another fatiguing, pain-filled day. any help will be appreciated. nin
Guest guest
Hello Nin Meleese here from Australia...well your symtpoms seem to be indicative of a thyroid problem Have you got any results from these " normal " tests that you can post so we can have a look. Put the ranges (they are brackets after results) Go here http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/long-and-pathetic/ and see what symptoms you can relate to. The word " normal " kept a lot of us sick for years You can order your own labs from LAB WORK from HEALTHCHECK USA, and if you put 12345 for the discount code, you'll get the VIP PRO PLUS II package deal for less! This is BLOOD WORK, not saliva and tests the free's, ferritin, plus more: https://www.healthcheckusa.com/testdetails.asp?productid=34 The lab will tell you where you can get your blood drawn Anyway post the results if you have them, try to get another blood drawer from the doc but if they won't do it then healthcheck can do it for you through one of their blood collection centres...Meleese xx > > i joined this group because for years it's seemed like there might be > something wrong w/my thyroid, but because the simple test always came > back normal, docs wouldn't search any further. > > symptoms: > fatigue > insomnia > sleep apnea (not much helped by cpap) > memory probs > intolerance to heat > pain dx'd as fibromyalgia > migraines & headaches, mostly controlled these days by gabapentin > & maxalt > depression & mood swings (paxil helps marginally) > bowel probs w/occasional nausea > hair won't grow > > > the symptoms are ramping up to near intolerable, and i'm at my wit's > end. i've begged to be referred to an endocrinologist, but the gps > won't go for it. > > is an endocrinologist the one i want to see? or some other > specialist? it's time for me to go begging again, because i'm tired > of invariably being dx'd w/irritable bowel syndrome, the ravages of > aging (i'm 52, not 92!) or worse, attention seeking behavior. i'm > tired of being given a rainbow mix of sample meds that i know aren't > going to work. > > and mostly i'm tired of waking up each morning dreading dragging > myself through yet another fatiguing, pain-filled day. > > any help will be appreciated. > nin >
Guest guest
Endos are always they answer either, as many don't have a strong interest in Thyroid. First step would be to get the correct tests done and see what the results are. Your symptoms sure fit. The tests that you want are more than just the TSH test that most docs use for screening. You might want to start by calling around seeing where you might be able to get the tests run... or, if your budget allows, you might be able to order tests on your own through Health Check, depending on where you live. They are available in most of the States in the US and have participating clinics scattered all over. You can check out their website to see if there is a clinic near you ( www.healthcheckusa.com ) The tests that you want are: TSH Free T3 Free T4 Thyroid antibodies and Ferritin These are a good start.. if you can get them to check B-12 that would be a good one too. Do you happen to have a copy of the last labs that were run? If you do, and can post the results, with lab ranges, that will tells us a bit more of what the doc has been looking at.... It might be that your current doc will run the tests for you.... he might not.. but it wouldn't hurt to ask. Guest guest
This group has wonderful suggestions and have been a great support. I encourage you to not give up and keep pressuring your GP for tests. I had thyroid symptoms for a LONG time before anyone (even myself) decided to look at my thyroid. I took myself off the mood drugs (lexapro was one of them) because 1. they weren't working and 2. I needed to find out the cause of my depression (because I'm not a depressed or anxious person--nor am I " stressed " ) and treat the cause instead of the symptoms. When I was finally diagnosed and treated for Hyperthyroidism (and Graves), I was amazed at the results. The Tapazole worked wonders and I felt like myself again. Unfortunately, I had a severe allergic reaction to the Tapazole (and later the PTU), which ended me up in the ER four seperate times--mainly because the doctors didn't think it was the anti-thyroid meds causing the hives, rashes, swelling and breathing problems. I began to wonder if any doctor really went to medical school. I did not want to have RAI (which was three weeks ago), but because my heart rate kept increasing (even with the beta-blockers), my doctor insisted on RAI. BUT, I'm just glad to know that my symptoms (similar to yours) were real and " not all in my head " . I wish there was a national push (like there is for breast cancer awareness and heart disease) for more research and studies on thyroid problems. If doctors would do thorough thyroid work-ups FIRST, many of us would not have to try their rainbow assortment of drugs. Thyroid testing should be mandatory for anyone who has gone through childbirth, menstruation, menopause or any other severe physical or mental stresses. (Stress is one of the causes of Graves and Hyperthyroid). Good Luck. keep pushing your doctor and insist on the tests topper mentioned.
