We've been discussing the soy/no soy debate and I noticed the following in the

interview that breastcancer.org did with the following doctors about diet. I

snipped it and am posting it below. Who knows if it's the " correct " answer, but

it is the answer from these experts:

Ellie

Excerpt from November 2005: Hormone-Receptor- Negative Breast Cancer interview

on breastcancer.org:

KBlachley: Are there any special dietary recommendations for someone

with this type of cancer to follow, with particular attention to the use

of soy and any other nutritional supplements?

Dr. :

I will give you two separate answers depending on what type of soy you

are asking about. Soy food products-tofu or soy milk-have very few

plant estrogens and the plant estrogens have very little, if any, effect in

the body. For most women, it is virtually impossible to eat enough soy

foods to have any impact. However, I do worry about soybean supplements

or extracts that you might buy in a healthfood store. Those are not

regulated, and there is no way to know how much of the plant estrogens

those products might contain.

Dr. Armstrong: I think that's a great distinction, and a very important

one that's often under-recognized.

on our news in australia today we saw this debate, they had a lady that had just

gone through chemo saying about weather or not to have any soy productsl

what they said was the milk was ok and so was tofu, but they did say not to

take the vitamin suplements that had a lot of soy in them. tc sandy in oz
