I haven't read that soy oils, specifically are bad....

but....

This is Strictly my opinion, my belief... if you promote the use of soy oil, you promote the manufacture of the soy by products, the more soy by products, the more toxic soy 'stuff' (in my mind I use another word) that is pushed on the public to be used up.

A lot of the soy by product that is used is labeled along the lines of protein something... or fiber something.. non specific terms... like the use of the term 'natural spices' to be able to use MSG in foods without calling it MSG.

I just have an attitude about it, and that's me....

Did you know that canola oil is a soy oil?

Did you know that when flour says that it has some soy in it that it's cuz they use the same grinding equipment for the soy products that they use for the wheat? It has to be listed now cuz so many folks are coming down with severe soy allergies.

Kentucky Fried Chicken has moved to soy oils too.... My choice is to not patronize an establishment, if I have a choice, that promotes the use of soy or GMO foods, for that matter.

I recently found out that 'flavor enhanced' frozen raw meats have been dunked in saline/soy protein solutions... That means that my current source of frozen raw chicken is no longer acceptable, for ME. They are using this soy liquid as a method of making the single piece freezing of the raw meat product easier. That just bums me out... I was using a lot of that type of product, bought in bulk on the cheap.

We each have to do what we feel is the best for us... and I won't be jumping up and down on someone that doesn't feel the same way that I do.. that would be silly.. we have to be able to share our thoughts, and our research, with others to be able to learn new things. Hey, that's what makes us so strong here, to be able to pool all of our talents and time for research and intellect with each other.

If anyone has more info, in either direction... please share... If I'm wrong.. if the issues that I find unhealthy are 'fixed' and I miss it... hey, I want to hear!!!

Here I use corn oil... it's also a non trans fat.. Actually went and picked up the bottle to read... contains only corn oil. 0 trans fats, 0 cholesterol.

I have tried olive oil. It works well in some things, but I really don't like the flavor in baked goods... and have found it's taste not to go well with some of the others things I do, and it is more expensive... and for me right now cost is also a huge factor in choices that I have to make.

I've spent some time exploring the links here:

I agree with you E, and i'd go so far as to say a lot of those people who get weight loss surgery and still can't lose weight probably have some underlying thyroid issues. (I know i cant lose weight even on a 900 cals/day, so why bother with surgery??)

NO..did not know a canola oil is a soy oil.

I did see oprah's show where she makes a soy shake for

herself and claim to do so every day.

She already looks like she has a thyroid problem to

me...(and a few other little comments she has made

point in the direction)...so I do fear that she will

make others want to do the same dangerous thing.

I put soy protein in my morning shake for over 3 years and I didn't really notice any difference in labs or the way that I felt. I lost and gained weight during that time according to my behaviours and it was any harder/easier to lose, or any harder/easier to gain. I didn't know better at the time, so now I use whey and brown rice protein.

When I first read about it about 4 years ago I went to the pharmacy to ask about it. The pharmacist knew nothing of the soy connection with thyroid meds but he looked it up in his big honkin' book and there was a paragraph blurb burried somewhere on the 3rd page. If you ever want to know EVERYTHING about your meds, go to the pharmacy and ask to the 'the book'. I do this every time I'm prescribed a new drug and then I shred 80% of them... Judy

There is a weight loss programme here in Australia advertised a lot on TV. It's a meal replacement shake powder that you mix with either water or milk, don't know, and have it at 2 meal times instead of eating.Anyway I looked up the web site , (not for me, I've lost the weight on Armour) I was curious as to what was in it.Guess what, it has a soy base................Meleese xx

I'm not surprised. I make my own shake and it is as natural as I can get it. I have it whether I'm dieting or not, since I can't bring myself to chew that early in the morning. It really is wonderful and filling. Here's the recipe in case anyone is interested...

1 banana

6oz cooked long cook oatmeal

8oz almond breeze beverage (or skim milk if I don't have the other)

1/2 scoop chocolate natural protein powder sweetened with stevia

1/2 scoop plain rice protein powder

1/2 tsp cinnamon for the ol' blood pressure

1/2 tsp maca for the old hormones LOL

1 tsp pure cocoa

3 drops liquid stevia

It's thick and yummy and I just sip it while I read my mail... Judy

She has said that she's had her thyroid checked.. but did the docs know

what they should be testing and what it should look like?

She was looking a bit gaunt the last time I flicked by to watch some of

the show.. .I'm kinda wondering if she'll get to a 'wider' phase again...

I dunno... maybe it's me.. but I kinda see a cycle with her that reminds

me of a mild hypo phase where she gets a little fuller and then a bit

hyper where she gets a bit thinner... me thinks its the milder stages of

long term Hashi's.. but I've never notice the neck fullness....

I look too close at folks on TV now.. watching for the little 'tells' in

them... watch the people around me like that too.... I'm dangerous!

hehehee

You know what really irks me? The body builders that are chugging down

the soy protein shakes and then popping the T3 and T2 hormones to get

ripped for competition.... and then there is feeding babies soy

formulas.... all the damage that can cause... I was a soy baby... I

wonder how much that contributed to my end result?

I have an old copy of a version of that book around here... it was our 'bible' with all the stuff that mom was getting.. and the crap that first doc gave me when I was dropping all the weight and had all the headaches if I didn't eat....

It was one of those things with the warning to not drive or operate heavy machinery.... I'm a truck driver and told to take it every four hours??

I woke the first morning after taking some after having a horrid night of flash back nightmares.... had mom look up the stuff in her book... and low and behold one of the side affects is nightmares....

This was that doc's solution for a woman that is dropping a pound of weight per day and gets crippling headaches if she doesn't eat...

Wish they had that book at the library, or we could access it online.. though online we can get an awful lot of info....

Hmmmm maybe we should start an info site on meds that are common to us... But we'd probably get sued.... sigh

VERY good question.

Soy in foods, HFCS in foods and beverages, Fluoride in water... all have a very direct affect on the thyroid and it's hormones.... Yet nothing is done about it.. there we roll back around to that phrase I saw when I first started researching thyroid.... 'Thyroid, the bread and butter disease'.... Because they can abuse us for decades, give us a gizzillion drugs to mask symptoms, while ignoring the thyroid hormones that are causing all the symptoms, blame it all on our laziness and depression..... and not quite kill us.... and by the time we die of from the cumulative damage they blame it on old age or our choice to not take care of ourselves.....

..... okay... off the soap box, pushing it into the corner... and getting back to watching 'House'...

Having weight loss surgery would do nothing for me because I don't eat enough now for it to make a difference. I find the only thing that works for me, once I'm under 200 pounds, is cardio exercise every day and muscle toning 2-3 times each week. It really does boost the metabolism.

I've lost 18 pounds since joining Overeaters Anonymous in November and I'm more at peace with my new eating plan than I ever have been before. I listen to speaker tapes and today a woman who has been in the program for 22 years spoke dearly of three friends that she has lost in her life following the surgery.

I know two people who have had it and both have gained most of the weight back even though they can now eat no more than a few bites at a time. I've heard others speak about losing the weight, but never losing the desire to eat. I could not live like that every day, cravings something so badly and not being able to physically eat it. I'm at the point now, where I don't think about food all day until my tummy growls.

Overeating is in our heads, not in our stomach, so if we can fix our brain, then the weight just follows... Judy

One of my 'open minded' psychologist friends said to my husband once, 'why are you overweight? what is it in the world that you feel you need to cushion yourself from?'... After that my husband really started examining his life and slowly changing for the better. Such a simple question.... so many answers :).
