Hi , You should be able to sample different foods as long as you get some exercise, which I'm sure you will be. I haven't given up any foods, just eat less of some of them. Some I eat when I know I'm going to be doing some type of exercise after eating. hugs Eunice
Guest guest
Hi, my name is and I was diagnosed a little over a week ago. I am on Glucophage and they just upped my dose to 1000 mg. twice daily. I am checking my blood sugar twice a day also. I have got my numbers down to around 140 in the morning and 160-170 two hours after dinner. They started up in the 260's so I am encouraged. I was really freaked out the first couple of days but I am starting to accept that this is my life now. I always knew it was coming since so many in my family had diabetes and I also had gestational diabetes when I had my last child. My question is this....we are going on a cruise in September and I am worried about my diet. So far I have been watching my carbs and sticking with mostly healthy foods but I know when I get on that ship I will be tested beyond measure with temptations. In my dream world I will be able to sample things I want while still watching my portions. Is this idea truly a dream? Any tips? Thanks for your help,

Guest guest
Sue--- Recommend you contact your endocrinologist or primary care physician and ask them what those numbers between 4 and 7 mean. Diabetes management is a constant learning process. A good way to start is letting your doctor know whenever you don't understand what he/she is telling you. Guest guest
Means your sugar is too high try and keep in down around 140 or lower and the numbers will drop to 7 or lower depending on your body which menas checking your sugar after every meal until you see what you can and can not eat. check it every twos after eating Sue Nicholson sue.nicholson@...> wrote: Hi , I too have only just been diagnosed, and I am totally lost.....I was told that my sugar level should be between 4 and 7, but it is 14...............I havent a clue what these numbers mean? Guest guest
Well, , you are more a veteran to this came than I am. I was only diagnosed a month ago. I have also been increased to 1000 mg from 500 mg after the first 2 weeks. I've yet to be on a cruise, but I totally understand where you're coming from. I'm not sure if they have buffet style or if you order from a menu. You might go on the cruise's website and check out their meals if they have that on there. I'm sure they have to have some food to accomodate customers with special diets. But, you might let them know beforehand. I am right there with you, though, because this coming w/e, we're having a large family reunion and I know there will be lots of baddies (goodies, but for me they're bad) there. Then, in August, I'm driving out to Michigan (from Montana) for another family reunion. And, I just know that my cousin, Sue, will make and bring my Grandmother's fabulous sugar cookies. I could eat a whole batch by myself if was alone! Good luck to the both of us! Becky ________________________________________________________________________ Check out AOL.com today.
