Something I've been wondering for several years. Before I was

diagnosed and before my meds got balanced. tomatoes!!!! If it was a

tomatoe, I had to have it! Cooked, raw, in sauce, whatever.

Absolutely HAD to have 'em! I had a garden with 18 tomatoe plants that

year. Very few of them went to waste, plus I bought more! It wasn't

unusual for me to sit and eat eight to ten tomatoes in an evening and

do it day after day. Also had cravings for fish and seaweed to a

lesser extent. Anybody else have similar all consuming cravings or

know what this may be about?

I couldn't tell you what it all may be about, and I haven't had a craving last that long, but I don't really like raw tomatoes other than a slice on a sandwich or burger. Once in a great while I will have a little bit on a salad if it's chopped small enough. One evening I had gone to Cracker Barrel and gotten their chicken salad salad and it came with 8 wedges. I ate every one of them like they were my favorite food on the earth and, on that day, they tasted awesome. I have tried since then to eat them and I just can't do it. I don't know why. It's just strange. It's been suggested that it's a vitamin C craving because they are high in vitamin C. I get plenty of vitamin C daily because I take a multi and a C tablet.summitanimalrescue wrote: Something I've been

My eating habits changed dramatically over the years as my hyper

increased.. not that it's hyper related.. but I am a firm believer that

cravings, like other symptoms (including pain, moods, etc) are our body's

way of telling us something is wrong..

Cravings can be a deficiency in diet, we crave a 'whatever' because we

aren't eating enough stuff to get a particular nutrient, or nutrients....

or it could be that, for whatever reason, our body needs more of a

particular nutrient that it did before.

I posted last week about my peanut butter and beans craving.. and folic

acid.... adding the additional folic acid to my supplements as allowed me

to NOT inhale and devour either beans or peanut butter... last night I

opened the peanut butter jar and took a scoop out. It was yummy, crunchy

and creaming and tasted marvelous... but I didn't need the whole jar....

I decided to do an experiment... I have, right over there, an open jar of

peanut butter, with a knife stuck in it... the room smells of peanut

butter.. I can take a deep breath and it smells marvelous, like smelling

a rose.. it's really nice.. but I've not once had to reach over and pick

up that jar and just start scooping it into my mouth....

It seems that I may have found what it was my body needed the peanut

butter to replace....

I think it would be interesting for us to put our collective brains

together and see if we can compile a list of food cravings and suspected

nutrient deficiencies that they might be filling in for....

I know when I was hyper and then in storm I went from being a mostly meat

and potatoes type to someone that scarfed down a lot of goitrogens (I'm

talking a plateful of raw broccoli and cauliflower as the preamble to a

meal), not knowing at the time that that is what they were, even

developed a HUGE taste for roasted soy nuts.. they were, at the time,

better than chocolate.... when I tried them after my RAI, when I was no

longer hyper... I spit them out.. they were disgusting... .my body no

longer needed their anti-thyroid effect and so didn't want them and

rejected them....

Tomatoes have a lot of vitamin C and trace minerals. They are also pretty

high in carbs, for a vegetable (fruit?) What other types of things have

crept into your 'love to eat it now' list?

I have always gone through cycles of food cravings... sometimes it is

because your body wants some nutrient but most of the time, I think it

is because I am a bit obsessive compulsive and with wheat, I am pretty

sure it is an allergic reaction.

Tomatos.... try the small ROMA tomatos, quartered with a bit of

salt... delicious...Which... is so weird, is also my present food

obsession... that and baked potatoes.
