Guest guest
Hi, everyone I was recently (two months ago) diagnosed type 2 and have joined this list to learn how to handle it. My Dr. says I'm borderline as my a1c was 6.? (I was very sick at the time, can't remember all the details) but I have blurred vision and some numbness in one foot. I'm on Actos 30 and it is working well for me. I test (AccuCheck Compac) before eating and occasionally at 2 hrs after. I own/operate a goat dairy and sheep farm so my day is very long and very busy. He suggested a meal plan of 60/15/60/15/60 carbs for meals/snacks but with his permission I've adjusted that to allow for 4 meals and three snacks (same total carbs/day). I was pleased to realize that a good diet/medication has reduced some of my sugar cravings. The nausea, disoriented-ness, general sick feeling went away within a couple of weeks, but my eyesight has not fully recovered, nor has the sensation in the foot. I'm curious what time frames others have encountered as far as recovery in these areas. I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks and have already learned a lot from you! Guest guest
Hi Janet, My concern is that two months after your T2 diagnosis your eye sight has not cleared up. I urge you to visit an opthomologist to find out what condition your eyes are in. Bleeding of the retina is caused by hyperglycemia after many years. Eventually the blood will block the retina causing blindness. See an opthomologist ASAP. Annual eye exams by an opthomologist are recommended for all diabetics. In Minnesota the state pays for all diabetic annual opthomology exams. Check to find out if Wisconsin will pay for yours. Welcome to the club! Tim Hopkins T1 since 09/21/1968. Guest guest
Janet, I am no eye or diabetes expert, and I don't play one on TV. However, it seems your diabetes is rather mild to have caused the damage you are experiencing. If I were you, I would get my butt to the ophthalmologist ASAP.
