Guest guest
Ok i am really curious about what this could be. A few days ago I found a lump in my neck right in thyroid area. I believe the thyroid itself is obviously swollen (unusual for me), but on the front, slightly towards the left there is a tiny bump that hurts if i press it. What could this be??? Even weirder, the swelling pretty much went down tonight. I did start eating a low carb/low cal diet a few weeks ago b/c i am really desperate to lose weight, but i dont know if that could affect this?? It seems that it popped up suddenly and left the same way. By the way, I am currently untreated and undiagnosed as all my labs have come back "in range," but obviously low. So, maybe i should think of this as a possible good sign....at least docs might give me the time of day and not blow off my concerns for my thyroid if i have an obvious lump, right? Thanks -Eve-
Guest guest
My lymph nodes do that when I have an allergic reaction sometimes. If you have any form of autoimmune thyroid problem, it can screw with your lymph nodes. It could also be a nodule, which I also have plenty of . Sometimes cysts/nodules form and pop and go away, much like they do on ovaries, kidneys, bladders, etc. Sometimes when they do you can get this.. I just ate pop rocks sensation in your throat for a little while. I don't know what else to call it LOL. You should definitely talk to a doctor about this, even if it ends up being nothing. 'Rarely' some nodules are cancerous and treatment is needed. Thyroid cancer is very slow growing and according to doctors is one of the better cancers you can have. I do not want to scare you, I just want you to be aware so that if the doc says, hey lets do a biopsy, you'll not freak out. Have you had any ultrasounds? Thyroid Function Tests (I can't remember what they're called but it's when iodine is injected into your body and it's measured through the gland. oooh... an updake scan. I think that's it). Can you post your lab results with your lab ranges also? If you live in the US, your doctor's office is required to provide those for you. Can you tell me the size and shape of the bumps? Are they squishy? Hard? Round (probable cyst/nodule)? Almond shaped (probably lymphnode)? Are they the size of dimes? Do they come and go only with food? Are there external factors like allergies, stress, etc. that could be making it happen?? Good luck . Lump in Throat! Ok i am really curious about what this could be. Guest guest
Thanks so much for your response. I am not too worried about it being cancerous...why waste energy worrying when that's most likely not it. I have a doctors appointment on Monday morning so i am hoping it will still be there...I want to be able to show him something. IT's my reg doc so i hope to at least get a referral to a specialist. I've only had some the basic thyroid tests, no scans/ultrasounds or anything. my results: TSH 2.21 FT3 1.1 (0.8-1.8) FT4 295 (230-420) TPO anti: 20 (<35) Thyroglobulin anti <20 (i had other labs the month before these and they were similar but TSH was 2.3 and FT4 was 260 that time) As for the lump: I first noticed something a couple days ago...i kind of had some pain towards my ear and a headache. not like an ear infection, absentmindedly rubbed my neck and it hurt. I went to the mirror and leaned back and i noticed that the base of my neck, between the adams apple and the soft spot between the collar bones, was swollen. I touched the area and i guess there is a little bump: really tiny and round...prob a bit smaller than a beebee. Its right in the middle of the thyroid area, slightly off center. It hurts if you rub it...sort of like a pin prick pain. The whole thyroid itself is still swollen also. I really dont have any more stress than usual. the only big difference i can see is that i am eating very little. Thanks again for your help! -Eve- Can you tell me the size and shape of the bumps? Guest guest
Thanks so much . everything you're saying makes sense. i go tomorrow for the ultrasound but it seems to me the swelling has gone down quite a bit. The painful bump is also gone (or at least i cant find it b/c the thyroid itself is smaller?). Is that common?? Can a goiter come and go that quickly? Now i am really nervous that nothing will show up on the ultrasound and the doc will really ignore me. I KNOW something was there!! -Eve-
Guest guest
, actually the swelling is still there, but its not as bad. Im thinking maybe the bump was a cyst that has subsequently popped, and maybe caused the thyroid to swell up. Is this possible or do i have a vivid imagination?? -Eve- The length of time being that short is something that I'm also puzzled about. If you ate a highly goitrogenic food, don't know whether it would swell that quick or go away that quick, i.e., can the food leave the cellular components that fast, don't know. Guest guest
Both of your FREE thyroid hormones values are very low in the range, indicating low thyroid hormones. That is a goiter, and the "BB" could be a thyroid nodule, which is a growth or tumor (probably benign, or most of the time benign) in or on the thyroid, I'm thinking especially from where you say that it is. Goiter is simply the whole thyroid in an enlarged state. A gland that can no longer process and make thyroid hormone out of the iodine introduced to it begins to puff up in size, trying to trap more iodine that it can't properly process into the hormones. Your antibodies may be low right now, but I suspect Hashimoto's Disease as the culprit, but it would be the beginning stages, if it is. Re: Lump in Throat! Thanks so much for your response.
