Guest guest
So we spent the day yesterday in the ER, I took a picture of 's BAHA site, it was geting much wrose, filled w/lots of pus and getting wrose faster. They cultured her, we are waiting for resutls, started her on a strong antiobiotic, they may have to start IV antiobiotics if it doesnt get better soon. They are concered about it getting into the blood, bone and brain. I mentioned the TItanium allergy, (i researched it, very very uncommon, but so is CHARGE). they dont think so. we are hoping it gets better before worse. I wish we could get this thing out, but they said it would be very very complicated to remove the screw as it was implanted in the bone so it would grown into the bone. I need to do more research. I emailed the surgeon that did it, he is out of the countyr for another week, but he did repsond, and wants to see us when he returns. What a good idea taking a picture and sending it to Doctor, as he is out fo country and her other ENT is in NYC (about 1 1/2 horus away and it was Saturday) Cathie, mom to

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. I was told it could not come out w/out cutting into the skull and the actual bone. Cathie

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. Guest guest
My friend doesnt have children with CHARGE but they do have BAHAs. Here is her response: a, our daughter, occasionally gets sore around the ear, we use either an antiseptic cream, or antibiotic cream Sherman's BAHA became sore around it, then loose, and the surgeon ended up taking it out completely. He has been given really good, new technology hearing aids, and has decided for himself that he doesn't want the BAHA's back in. HIs hearing wasn't as bad as ERica's. both of them have more conduction problems than nerve problems. The only reason he went with BAHA in the first place was he was always getting inner ear infections. Once he stopped swimming completely, he stopped the ear infections. Hope this may help Cheers Tricia - mum to Cameron, NZ
Guest guest
Thanks Pam, I just got a call, the lab results show it is a Staff infection. It is no worse today, so hopefully the antiobiotics are working. From what I am told removing the screw is very very complicated, they would have to remove part of the skull. We will know more when we see the surgeon. Your hugs and kisses were rec'd by ! Cathie

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. Guest guest
OH Cathie, I am so sorry you are all going through this. Let¹s hope that now that everyone is ³on² it, that a quick resolve is fast to happen. Is the idea of removing the screw because it would have grown into the bone, does that mean bone would have to be removed, too? Sounds scary! Guest guest
Cathie, I am glad the kisses and hugs made a hit!! Good news that the infection might be under control. Yikes, what a mess--I hope this gets resolved and that she gets better soon. xo pam Re: BAHA infection Thanks Pam, I just got a call, the lab results show it is a Staff infection. Guest guest
I am passing this on from a Mum who doesnt have a CHARGER but has kids with a different syndrome and BAHA's. " BEcause of the infection, it caused the bone around the BAHA to go soft, and they just took a little tool and used it, a little like a ratchet, and it popped right out!! The BAHA had become wiggly in the bone. " Cheers Tricia - mum to Cameron
