Guest guest
Mia, I look for a breast surgeon and see what he thinks. What do they say the pain is from? I know if you eat/drink a lot of things with caffeine that can cause lumps and once the caffiene is stopped the lumps go away. About the only other thing I would suggest would be a biopsy. Please let us know what you find out. I will keep you in my prayers. A lump found, Mamogram/Ultra Sound is negative for cancer but concerns Hi all, I am Mia, I am 30yr old. I just joint. I had thyroid cancer and had two surgeries, in June and July 06 to remove my thyroid. I started taking Thyroid hormone (Synthroid) since August 06. I gained about 5 lbs since the surgeries, I was 98 lbs in ~ May 06, I am now 103 lbs. After the first surgery, I noticed some pain around my chest area. My breasts got larger gradually. Especially my left breast. Sometime I could feel a sharp pain. It has this burning/hot sensation periodically and a bit worst during the last two periods, and a little bit worst on the left breast. On top of that, my ribs under the breasts are also painful when I press on them (more pain on the left side). The pain were everywhere around the breast area. At first I could not tell where the pain came from. I later found that most of the pain come from the rib beneath the breast. I am Asian. I am skinny and my breasts were very small (flat). The left breast didn't really developed. Now, the left breast is slightly larger than the right breast. Two months ago, I felt a thick, lumpy tissue on that left breast. For the first time, I went for a mamogram & Ultra sound on December 28 06 (during time which I had my period). The doctor came out and said the result looks find on mamogram. She did Ultra sound and said there are thicker tissue on the left breast. She told me to come back in four months. I was too happy to hear the mamogram result looked fine and forgot to ask her other questions. I later read that mamogram may not be very helpful in young wowen. I continue to feel the lumpy tissue and the burning sensation. The swelling doesn't go down much after the period neither. I am so scared that I am losing sleep and having nightmare over this but I don't really know what to do? What kind of test to do etc... Can someone help me please? Thank you very much. Mia --------------------------------------------------------- Hi Mia, You don't mention if your thyroid removal was followed up with Radioactive Iodine Treatment (RAI) to kill off remaining thyroid cells. This is usually done after the removal of the cancerous thyroid. You may have thyroid cancer cells that found their way to you breasts, which is not uncommon. If this is so, treating the thyroid cells in your breast is much better handled by a qualified thyroid endocronologist than a breast surgeon, and much less invasive and treatable. If your thyroid cancer went to your breasts, it is still thyroid cancer.....not breast cancer... and should be treated as thyroid cancer with RAI. I'd certainly check out this possibility before assuming you have breast cancer. Find a good endocronologist or get ANY doctor to do a TG (thyroglobulin) blood test. Your TG should be zero or negligible after thyroid removal. If it isn't, it should be treated as thycan. Of course you are scared. We all understand this because we've all felt this way, but things will work out for you in time, dear Mia. Kathleen >
Guest guest
Hello anne I had my regular check up a couple days ago with my primary doctor. She arranged me to have a bone scan. I will try to see a breast surgeon as recommended. Thank you for your response. Mia > > Mia, > I look for a breast surgeon and see what he thinks. What do they say the pain is from? Guest guest
Hello Kathleen, Yes I had RAI on 8/24/06. Doctor said that my thyroid cancer was within the nodule and was not invasive yet. I just had blood test done on Dec 28 2006, my endocrine told me that my blood test looks fine. I know something is wrong, I have not found the answers to what is wrong with me yet. I am struggling with what test to ask doctors do to find out what is wrong. Which doctors should I see? breast surgeon, bone doctors, endocrinologyst, who else you could think of. Thank you. > > > > Hi all, > > > > I am Mia, I am 30yr old. I just joint. > > > > I had thyroid cancer and had two surgeries, in June and July 06 to > > remove my thyroid. Guest guest
Hi Mia, Congratulations on your successful thycan treatment. Glad to hear you DID have RAI. I'm also a thycan since 2004 and doing fine. I'm not a professional, and don't have a specific recommendation for you. I do know that our thyrogen levels effect our estrogen levels, and vice versa. I'm wondering if your balance between the two has changed a lot since going on synthetic thyroid (Synthroid). If I were you, my next step might be to check the levels of ALL you endrocrine hormone glands, probably by your endo, even though you saw him recently. Again, I'm not a professional, but seems like you have something unusual going on here. Wish I could be of more help. Maybe someone else here can offer more information or advice than I can.
