My opinion is that you need to call your doctor and tell him what you just

posted.

Hi all, I have a sore on one finger from a lancet, it has not healed

in at least a couple of weeks. Now it is bleeding and won't stop

bleeding, unless I compress it or at least put a bandage on it.

Anyone else have any similar problem? How do you stop the bleeding?

No, I am not on any blood thinners.

great that you are going to the dr. Remember to write down your questions

and concerns!

this is a personal question and none of my business BUT, depending on your

age and where your family origins are, you might have something that

prevents your body from healing wounds, infections and illnessess. You can

email me privately if you want to: helperdogs2@....

See if your dr will take a 'base line' CBC on you if he hasn't already, and

make sure your infection fighting bloods cells are ample to fight infection

etc.... I think you also want to know if you have enough platelets because

I think those are the cells that coagulate the blood but I'd have to look it

up to be sure.

Can you tell I get a lot of CBCs done LOL :-)

OK, I went to the doctor. He said diabetes causes " delayed healing "

of cuts, etc. Interestingly, he did immediately write up for a CBC,

without me mentioning it. So I went and had it immediately, we'll

see what it says. (It seemed odd to get stuck when there is a

bleeding problem, but ya do what ya gotta do.)

Happily, this morning the bleeding had stopped and did not resume.

My feeling is that the recent bleeding may be related to some bad

eating I've done in the recent past. Being with my 12yo son who

wants ice cream (me too!), and being given a candy bar by a well

meaning person as thanks for some things. So this bleeding is a

strong reminder to do better.

I've gone back to exercising more (I had stopped entirely since

Christmas). I am really hopeful that returning to a good diet and

exercise will get things back under control. Morning blood sugar is

back to " OK " at 120 - although at one point when first diagnosed I

had it down at or below 100.

But I'm out of a job, soon to loose medical insurance, and my house

has termites! So depression is ever present. Which leads to a

desire for eating, especially the wrong things ...

Besides, eating is a pleasure, and really easy. Unlike, say,

hiking, where I need to prepare, then go there, then shower, etc. on

return. What's a body to do?? [i'm buying lottery tickets, but no

luck so far Besides, that's just money, not health!]

I take Celebrex, & my DH is on a blood thinning med. So we

bleed like gushers whenever we get the tiniest cut. After my DH

tore off a toenail last fall & I couldn't stop the bleeding (I

made him sit in the bathtub!), our daughter (RN) got us a box of

Seal-On spray powder from the supermarket. " ...a fine, dry

powder which rapidly absorbs the blood from minor cuts & wounds

to form a soft gel-like layer...& stop bleeding fast. " I used

it on myself once, & it does work.

Of course, for major injuries you wouldn't try it! For a lancet

poke I'd think it would be fine. Only drawback is that it cost

$7.50 for a little 1.69 oz. spray can--must be the advanced

technology?

Bill, you have gotten some good suggestions for ways to stop a cut from

bleeding. However, I would suggest only doing these on a fresh wound.

Since you have had this for a 'couple of weeks' I would suggest seeing your

doctor.

Even if you got the bleeding stopped at this point, the risk of infection is

much greater. It's also possible that something that has gone this long

might have some necrotic (dead) tissue that needs removed. Many times this

is as simple as a 'firm' cleaning with a q-tip, other times, a small

surgical instrument is needed to remove dead tissue. Since diabetics are

more likely to have problems with wounds healing (which, by the way is one

of the top reasons for an amputation) I suggest you seek medical care. Any

time tissue is removed it's considered a 'surgical' procedure and should be

performed by medical professionals.

I'm not suggesting this is the problem, nor am I trying to scare you...

however, many times something as simple as this.. or even a small blister on

your foot caused by a new pair of shoes can result in the loss of a finger,

toe, foot or limb.

In my opinion, something that has been bleeding for 'a couple of weeks'

needs medical attention right away and doesn't need 'home cures' or more of

the same treatments that haven't worked so far.
