Guest guest
When I was told I was Her 2 positive, I got on the computer and from what I read 25-30% of the breast cancers are Her2 positive. That made me sad because I didn't really want to be in the small %, guess I figured if I was to have breast cancer I would like to be in the higher group because it wouldn't make me feel as special. Silly as it sounds that is how I was feeling. However, it seems as if every woman that I meet at my Cancer Center is Her2 positive and taking Herceptin just like I am. Suddenly I don't feel as special as I thought . When I talked to other ladies who have had breast cancer, especially those that have survived 5 years or more, most, if not all, can tell me what they had, whether it was hormone positive or Her2 positive. Most tell me they took a little pill for 5 years and that was it (they may have had masectomies or lumpectomies, chemo or radiation, but in any case most took a pill for 5 years). Is anyone else finding that there are more ladies testing Her2 positive? Do you think those %s will have to be readjusted upwards? For those on tamoxifen, were you still having periods? The reason I asked is that I stopped having periods 3 years before I had breast cancer and my doctor was suggesting tamoxifen (I was 99% estrogen positive and 45% progestrone positive as well as HER2 positive.) I thought if you stopped having periods, you wouldn't be taking tamoxifen. Anita __________________________________________________
