DIEP Tram Flap

I have been diagnosed with breast cancer and am opting for a bilateral

mastectomy due to a

high level of cancer in my family. My breast surgeon is recommending that I have

reconstruction at the same time as my surgery. The plastic surgeon is

recommending I have a

DIEP Tram Flap surgery otherwise known as a Free Tram because I am not a

candiate for

implants since it looks like I will have to have radiation after chemo. Does

anyone know about

this kind of surgery and can offer any insights in terms of recovery from it,

apperance, etc?

Thanks.

Hi, Mabelolive:

This is the type reconstruction I am considering, too. From what I have read,

it leaves part of the abdominal muscle which the Tram Flap does not. Implants

are not a good option for me either. I am going to a PS for consultation on

reconstruction on January 31. Will know more then for sure.
