Guest guest
Hi Gay, I'm sorry Bryce is having such a difficult time. I checked back and see that he is 6 years old? I don't know if a central venous line would be their first choice, or if that would prohibit his coming home from the hospital. Is his cardiac status now normal? Have they considered short term steroids? Are these respiratory viruses? did they x-ray? My son is 23 yrs old, and had a bout of viral meningitis 6 months ago. He felt so awful, he said he just wanted to die. I said to him-No, you don't! You want the infection to die-not you! If he's up for it, they teach kids to imagine a video game going on in their minds. Where their blood cells are the good guys-WINNING the battle against the bad guy viruses-and get in there with tanks and machine guns and wipe out all the bad guys. At least it helps the children to feel some sense of control rather than powerlessness. And it sends the right message to their systems. Telling them wonderful stories of things they'll be doing in the future, can help with that depression. Can he hold down enough fluids? What are the doctor's concerns about it all? Poor little guy-I certainly hope he feels better soon. in Ma. (, 21 yrs old)

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. Guest guest
Bryce has had multiple (including recent) hospitalizations without an IV as nobody could access his veins. Has anyone else had this issue? How is it dealt with for your child? It is so frightening in an emergency situation. Also, Bryce is on his 4th virus in 6 weeks, continuous. He states he will not be getting well and is very irritable and frustrated. His usual personality is very sweet. How have you handled depression due to lengthy illness? Does 6 weeks of illness and 4 separately diagnosed viruses warrant a trip to an immunologist? He is in his first year of school, so is exposed to so many things. My daughter is so frustrated she is thinking about home schooling. Thank you in advance for your response.
