I eat breakfast around 10:30. After that I don't eat anything else until at least 2 1/2 hours. Usually I'll have part of a cup of yogurt then. Sometimes I'll have peanuts or celery on the counter and as I walk by I may get a few peanuts or a piece of celery. Sometimes I will eat a small piece of candy. Around 3:00, I'll have lunch. About 5:00, I'll have more yogurt or some SF Jello with cool whip or I'll have a wasa cracker with peanut butter and honey. In between, my meals, I'm also drinking hot tea (green tea help to curb my appetite). I have dinner around 7:30-8:00. Sometimes before going to bed, I may have a small amount of yogurt or some SF jello. I drink Crystal Lite and water also. As for testing, most of my testing has been twice a day. I know that my fasting is going to be below 100 so I only test fasting once a week or so. Sometimes I test after breakfast and lunch, other times after breakfast and dinner, depending on what I have eaten. You need to schedule your testing with what you feel comfortable doing. If I had to test 3, 4 or more times a day, I would be stressed, but that is just me. Diabetes and testing is something you have to live with the rest of your life. If you are constantly stressed, you will give up. hugs Eunice
Guest guest
I must admit that I can't beat my compulsive eating of 15 years or more, I was not overweight til I had my thyroid cancer in " 99 and since then added some 15 lbs but have taken off 13 since last summer with little effort on my part, the endo simply increased my synthroid and the lbs melted away. I would love to lose 6 more lbs to bring me where I should be. I have tried really hard not to eat every hour on the hour it seems, it is never big maybe a few pretzels, or an SF ice pop or a yogurt or a waffle with some cottge cheese on it, but I eat alllll day long, NOW with having to test before and 2 hours after meals I CAN'T seem to control my wanting to eat, without breaking out in very umpleasant " anxiety attack " I feel myself getting very anxious trying to hold off??? Guest guest
Joyce--What exactly do you eat compulsively? Found it helped to shrink my stomach by going on a liquid diet for 24 hours. The only carbs I had were in the form of clear fruit juices. Also helps to learn all the free foods. Sometimes vanquish hunger by eating an ounce or two of almonds. That amounts to about 1/2 carb exchange. Can't ever drink too much water. Guest guest
Joyce---Basically raw vegetables qualify as truly free of calories. Celery and lettuce are at the top of the list. Guest guest
Joyce, I also live alone and must prepare food just for me. I have little habits that I've got into for eating. It might be boring for some people, but I do things periodically to mix it up a bit. I always have yogurt with flax seed and fruit and cinnamon toast for breakfast. Then I have a turkey sandwich and fruit for lunch. At dinner I have a pork chop or piece of grilled chicken and a salad and sometimes other vegetables. For snacks I always have on hand sugar-free jello and cool whip, sunflower seeds, pistachios or other nuts, sugar-free fudgesicles, cheese cubes, thin Triscuits, and lite cheese spread. Sometimes I make an Egg Beaters omelet and salad for dinner, or I'll have a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch. Or I might have oatmeal for breakfast. If I get bored with something, I'll switch for awhile. Maybe you could make a list of the things you like and indicate what a serving size would be. Then you can be sure always to have these things on hand. I snack alot more than I used to, but I mostly stay within my food plan. Hope this helps. kittenkorner kittenkorner@...> wrote: TIM, I really think my whole problem is that I never eat a full breakfast or sit down to eat lunch and most days it was a TV dinner or veggie burger, no full meals ever since I am on my own!! Guest guest
not meaning to start an argument here, but although low calorie, raw veggies aren't free of calories. I happen to love raw veggies. And of course, we all know anyone can get fat on salad if they eat enough of it, can't they? guess only water has NO calories or stuff we make ourselves being sure there are no calories??? Like I make koolade with splenda.... My nutritionist gave me a great little book called HEALTH CHEQUES Carbohydrate Fat & Calorie Guide. It has been very helpful to me although it isn't an encyclopedia! it does fit in my pocketbook :-) I was surprised to find: cauliflower - cooked 1/2 cup is 14 calories and 3 carbs. raw is 13 cal same carbs (haven't a clue why the difference in calories). broccoli - 1/2 cup cooked is 22 calories and 4 carbs, raw 12 calories, carbs 2 (maybe they automatically think they have something to cook them instead of steaming??? dunno) carrots - 1/2 cup cooked is 35 cal, 8 carbs, raw is 1 large carrot is 31 calories and 7 carbs! 1/2 cup lettuce is 7 calories and 1 carb 1 med tomato raw is 26 cal and 6 carbs. Surprised the heck out of me too! If you can show me where you see veggies have no calories PLEEZ tell me! I need something to eat too!!!!!!! Guest guest
Joyce, We have the same problem. I have been finding from this list that many people say eating about every 3 or 4 hours a smaller meal than I might have before (used to do 3 meals and nothing in between) helps. I've been noticing the past couple of days that FOR ME this is working a bit when I get upset and need comfort foods. Today I had a 'reasonable' breakfast around 9 then realized I was terribly hungry around 11 but a friend called so I was lucky and didn't eat until noon. I had an acceptible sandwich and very low cal egg cream I've learned to make. Then I got hungry again around 4! I had 6 cups of popcorn which was 280 calories, 22 carbs and counted as a meal for me even though it wasn't exactly nutritious. But it did the job I needed for a comfort food and stayed within calories and carbs for me. I expect to eat another 'reasonable' meal of blueberries and sourcream :-) around 9 or 9:30 because I feel satisfied now. Try and find out what you can eat, how many calories it is and how many carbs etc that your body can deal with. They try to find out the spacing between eating so that you don't get 'hungry' whether it is your body that is hungry or your " mouth/mind " for whatever reason. Then be sure to find out what foods you can eat that SATISFY your cravings to eat. Yup it is hard. But I figure if I can do it most of the time, anyone can and so can you. Be cool, don't panic. It takes a while to figure this stuff out. What kinds of foods make you 'happy' when you get these cravings? If I can help find foods that satisfy you I will *try* - if you like sweet try looking at the files for Strawberry Dream and see if that might be an answer???? I think that is where I put the recipe. Guest guest
Actually, people can only get fat from the non-veggie portions of a salad--dressing, cheese, nuts, meat. Moreover, those veggies are labled as " free " because the amount of dietary fiber outweighs any inherent carbs, whether cooked or raw. The only veggies I know of that you MUST count are starchy ones, such as beets or lima beans. Fortunately, I don't like either of those so I don't have to worry about how many carbs they have! Guest guest
Joyce, Hershey just came out with a no sugar chocolate syrup. It uses sucralose which is the only sweetner I can use. For 2T is has 15 calories and 5 carbs. What I do is to take plain seltzer (although I ran out and used raspberry and it was good), 1 or 1.5T 2%lactaid (lactose intolerant too), 1.5T more splenda because I like it sweet and it makes the syrup taste more chocolate-y to me, and then put in the 2T of Hershey's chocolate syrup. I ignore how many calories or carbs might be in 1 or 1.5T of the milk because 8oz of milk is something like 120 calories and 12 carbs - bad me! so this drink is 15 calories if you only use the 2T of the syrup. I need my chocolate and the sugar free sucralose candies might trigger me into having more more more! Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi Joyce, I have been an compulsive eater all my life I guess. I guess there are a lot of us out there that eat for many more reasons than hunger. Most of these reasons I don't even think we are aware of. I went to the Dr. about 3 weeks ago because my feet and legs were weak and it was getting hard for me to get around. When I got home from the Dr., I laid down to take a nap. After a 2 hour nap, I woke up to find I couldn't walk at all. My legs just folded up on me when I tried. I guess I should have called someone, but I didn't, I just spent the evening praying, crying, and thinking about what my life would be like without the use of my legs. By the next morning I was a little better, called the Dr., and my family, and got a little help. I also dug out that old diabetic diet and started to stick to it and see if I could lose some weight. I have always keep my blood glucose numbers acceptable anyway. My worse test reading since I have been a diabetic was 7.3, but I never lost any weight. Since then, I have lost some weight and am better. The girls at church have started calling me " skinny Pam " . By the way, I am NOT shinny, but may be before this is all over with! I guess the answer is you just have to have a reason, that is important enough to you, to give up compulsive eating. My legs are that important to me. We can all do it, but what will it take for us to do it? People are very complicated beings aren't they? - Pam

Guest guest
> > Hi Joyce, > I have been an compulsive eater all my life I guess. I guess there are a > lot of us out there that eat for many more reasons than hunger. I am a compulsive person and eating has been one of my conpulsions. I stayed up all night last night on the computer, probably from the prednisone induced high I get, and from extra stress over the weekend. I found myself thinking constantly about eating. Of course, I can found myself thinking constantly about eating. Of course, I can blame some of that on the prednisone too. ha. Well, I ate and ate, but most of it was ok. I actually drank some milk, and loved it, but stayed away from my hubby's cereal. I devoured jello, ate left over fresh green beans, blueberries 1/3 cup with some cream cheese and sweeter. I wanted sweets so bad. also had a very small piece of watermelon. weekends are a difficult time for me. I find if I don't stay busy, I get moody and depressed and the compulsion to eat kicks in. So, I will need to start planning for that. I have many things I like to eat, so do not miss much of the things I can't or won't eat. I eat some goodies in moderation, but not many. I guess I have gotten compulsive about this too, but it is a good kind of compulsion. just hope it sticks, but one day at a time is how I am doing it. Also, I ordered a new " cooking vessel " as my mother- in-law used to call them. :-) It's called GT Xpress 101. It's perfect for so many things for 1 or 2 people, and no waste. That was fun to cook on Friday and Saturday. I can make so many thing with it. IT's way cool!! LOL I find it I don't over cook, and there is no left overs, I do better. So, I freeze small portions of fish, chicken and even got some very lean pork. I made a chicken roll up with a few bread crumbs to bread it, seasoned it with natural, no salt seasonings and put some asparagus in the middle of the rolled up chicken, in the little well it has for you to put things you put the food in, it cooks on both sides. 7 minutes and it was done. It was yummy and just enough. Will, my hubby is eating healthier too. We had some holiday sauce with it, and corn on the cob. (Delightful).. he loves to cook too. A few questions for the veterans . Is coffee bad for me?I know the caffeine isn't good, but I don't drink much of it. I love Crystal Light and drink that most of the time, and diet Dr. Pepper, caffeine free & water. The prednisone makes me retain so I am trying to stay on a low salt diet. Also, what kind of test machines are the best? Anybody with comments.. would appreciate them. For you that are struggling with anything, diet, exercise, depression, relationships, finances. I know I am only a thought away from letting negativity take over. And many times it does. Have a great day all of you Judy

Judy, Just a few minutes ago there was a piece on the news about how coffee protects people from Type 2 -- and caffeine-free coffee is even better. I wish I had been paying better attention, as I don't know if it was just good as a preventive, or whether there is some protective quality in coffee that helps those of us with Type 2. I'm sure we'll be seeing more in the news about it. The only problem they said was that it was only effective if you drank 6 or more cups a day. That's a lot of coffee!! Maybe that explains why my sister is not diabetic. Anyhow, I would say " Drink your coffee and enjoy it. " Maybe I'll have to increase my coffee consumption. I just drink two big cups of decaf in the morning. ,_._,___ __________________________________________________

Guest guest
, I'll do some research on coffee and diabetes. I only drink about 2-3 cups a day, and they are spread out. We use the half caffeine, and half coffee because too much caffeine makes me jittery. Today I was craving juice. I found some no sugar added orange juice a few weeks ago. I think I'll buy some more and just have it around for times when I am really craving it. I am wondering if fresh squeezed is better? I'm sure it is since all the whole food seem to be so much better. I had a treat for breakfast. I fixed an omelet wrap in my new GT EXpress. 1 small tor fajita/tortilla 15 gr. carb 3 sausage links, pre cooked kind ( chopped up) not the greatest I know... egg beaters - and a little cheddar cheese mix all together spray one side of the " well " of the GT EXpress put in all in as a wrap or cook the omelet in the other side for a different twist. I wanted the crispy taste of the tortilla.. Leave in for about 4 - 5 minutes, comes out wonderful. I did have one strawberry and about 5 blueberries. I am using a dibetic died where I am allowed 25 carbs a meal. I eat every 3 hours if possible.. Crispy, yummy, breakfast wrap, and in no time. I even got hubby to eat one, and he doesn't eat breakfast usually. Judy. I haven't tested BG yet, ate at 9:30. BG 100 when I got up at 9. I am using 10 units of humalog morning, 5 mid day and 10 at night. have lost 15lb since April. I just went under 200, and am thrilled. I got a pair of pants on yesterday that I couldn't a month ago. :-) Never doubt that a small, group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. I love Crystal Light and drink that most of the time, and diet Dr. Pepper, caffeine free & water. The prednisone makes me retain so I am trying to stay on a low salt diet. Also, what kind of test machines are the best?

Guest guest
I just read the article. very interesting. I've never been a coffee drinker - tea has been my favorite. Like coffee candy, cake, etc, but not to drink. Might consider looking into it as another 'taste' because I'm getting bored with the food I'm eating. Is sanka coffee or a coffee substitute? Anyone know? See how much I 'know' about coffee LOL!!!
