Guest guest
hey everyone! monday i went to see the oncologist to find out what kind of treatment i will be having. i went already assuming i'd be having the whole 9 yards of treatment (chemo, radiation & tamoxifen for 5 yrs) based on the last appt. so imagine my delight when the dr said i won't have to have chemo! the oncotype dx test showed the original tumor indicated the cancer was very slow growing (16 out of 100). it also reported that i have a 10% chance of reoccurance, 95% of that 10% being in the 1st 10 yrs. evidentally chemo could do more harm than good for someone in my position. i will still have to have 6 weeks of radiation & a few yrs of tamoxifen. the onco examined me & said come back to him after radiation. earlier this week i found another lump in the left breast where the original lump was---the partial mastectomy was a month & 1/2 ago. this really freaks me out, ya know? at 1st i thought it was scar tissue bcs it is right beneath one of the scars from the mastectomy. i try to rationalize that they got clear margins w/nothing else showing a month & 1/2 ago & the oncotype dx test said the original was slow growing, surely this is nothing---but i'm having a hard time believing that! my period has just ended & i'm wondering if that has something to do with it. i DID ask the onco if i should worry when i have my monthly cycles----i dont recall getting a pointed answer. i'm wondering has anyone else found another lump so closely to the removal of the original one? anyone had a situation similar to mine? i appreciate any advise. hope everyone has a great day! jeannie
Guest guest
Jeannie, Great news that you don't need chemo. I would definitely go and have the lump checked out. Do you eat or drink a lot with caffeine in it? Caffeine can cause lumps and once you stop they go away. Guest guest
Jeannie - Great news on not having the chemo. I did in fact have a lump that " grew " in the area of my lumpsite which my oncol determined to be like a blood blister inside the cavity of where they took the tumor. I had it drained three times, and it returned all 3 times and then I had the area " re-excised " in November. since then, no return of that lump or any others either. There were good margins with my first lump so I also had no reason to think another BC could develop. I'm not sure I'm being of too much help to you, because in my case they never could really explain why i kept getting the " blister " - so if I were you, I'd get it checked out. Better safe.........you know the rest. Hugs!
