Guest guest
I know a number of you have gone down this road before. Can I get some info on it? I know nothing about it. Anything from the length of the stay, to pain levels, to healing time, to results in improved breathing and possible improvement on eating. If you have anything to give on this subject, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance! , mommy to Meagan (CHaRgE) and 2 year old twins, and big brother 4 years, married to the best daddy in the world for 9 years! The mention of my child's name might make me cry. Not mentioning my child's name will break my heart. Unknown

Guest guest
Hi , (5yo CHaRGE) had her tonsils removed at 13 months because of bad sleep apnea, it was also a little scary post surgery because of swelling of airways and she had laryngo/tracheamalacia, after a few hours she was fine and they transfered her to general ward, she recovered very well, although it was very painful for about a day and since she was tube fed we didn't have to worry about her eating or drinking anything post op. It was completely successful with regards to the sleep apnea (and they removed adenoids too) and she has never had any other problems (touch wood), so I am very pro tonsil removal. Good luck. Guest guest
Hi , had her tonsils and adenoids out about one year ago at age nearly 6. She had been having sleep apnoea albeit mild. She was also regularly blocked up at night so would wake up distressed. Her quality of sleep was quite poor. was admitted in the morning, had surgery in the afternoon and was home the following day having scoffed a bowlfull of corn flakes! Urrrgghh! Can't imagine it! She was on pain relief and continued on it for about one week. No negative effects whatsoever. On the positive side, the quality of her sleep improved remarkably as there was no obstruction so she could breathe better. Of course now that the quality of sleep is better, she wakes up refreshed in the middle of the night and parties instead of crying! Now we just need to get the quantity sorted. We have also noticed the everpresent snotty nose is waaaay more dry this year. Winters are usually awful with nasal secretions even when she has no cold, but this year, our shares in Kleenex may have to go down, thank goodness. This unpredicted outcome is most welcome. Any more questions, please just ask and good luck. Flo > > I know a number of you have gone down this road before. Can I get some > info on it? I know nothing about it. Guest guest
, Ethan will be having his tonsils removed at the end of March. I too have all those questions and will let you know our experience when it is done. I suspect that the pain will be tough although he has been through many surgeries before. Even though Ethan has a trach, we chose to remove them now since it will be tougher as he gets older and we know they have to come out eventually. Guest guest
I asked my dad the other day about when I had my tonsils removed. Since him and my step mom have no clue when it was done it means i was between 6 and 8 years old. That would corrispond with the last of my major asthma attacks, snorring and known major sleep apnea issues. I think my suverity of my colds stayed the same but they were a little less frequent. In fact I dont think i ever needed to be hospitalized for colds after, though i did have some colds that turned out to be not colds but bactirial issues that needed antibiotic treatment but luckly those were few since. Tonsil issues wernt the only cause of colds and ear aches for me. I wish the best with tonsil removal and hope the surgury goes smoothly and that Meg feels better after the surgury. Mid highschool i was getting a lot of bad colds again but then had several very young siblings, and i vollenteered in the kindergarden room of my school. My next bout of bad colds seemed to be linked to heartburn and working in the daycare. anyways im getting wayyyy of topic sorry lol, morning, just took my meds half an hour ago and im drinking tea that is a black tea... i know, caffeen, need to avoid it but its just soooooooo goooood cause its canadian maple (black tea) and it tastes like maple syrup but it isnt too sweet. its like walking through a forest of maple trees in the fall. I like it cause it reminds me of good times with my mom. Dispite my many issues with mum and her family, we did have good times and I deffo want to always charish those good times. (I think this is part of absolute acceptance that my councellor and i are working on). Anyways have a good day I will be on lots tomorrow after i sleep in till lunchtime. I will email about my last two days wich have been busy with school but got lots to share. Guest guest
Garland had his tonsils and adnoids removed at 18 months old. His O2 sats were in the low 60's to mid 50's. They were even wanting to trak at that time, we requested for that to be last resort. Once they were removed he has stayed in the mid to high 90's (where they should be). This was the best thing we could have done for him. He now wakes up rested and sleeps through the night! I hope that this helps some. , Randy & Garland (5) Goodwin ---- Jody Wolfe wrote: ============= , Ethan will be having his tonsils removed at the end of March. Guest guest
Danny had severe sleep apnea where he would stop breathing for 30 seconds or more at a time. This may have been the source of the severe intellectual regression he had at age 3. (Alternative theories are vaccines or some form of autism.) He received a tonsillectomy that helped his breathing considerably by making more room in his throat. -Mike Schwartz in Ventura, Calif.
