Guest guest
Have a question for those who take iron. I was reccomended to get Vit A, Vit D , Vit C and iron as I can not take anything with nickel or B12 so no multi's etc..and with the nickel diet these are low. Now my iron levels have not been checked in a bit but I know they were normal about mid range last time they were checked. Now for iron.. Ferrous sulphate..300mg = 65 mg elemental iron.. Ferrous gluconate..324 mg = 35 mg of elemental iron. I can not take either.. Ferrous Fumarate 300mg=100 mg of elemental iron.. this I can take..but I feel 100mg of elemental iron is too high of a dose so I got the liquid so I could take a lower dose. Most multi's contain 5 mg and prenatals 15-35 mg. I believe the RDA is 14mg of elemental a day but that is set low. Now I do eat meat..but all green leafy vegs are out as well as all grains etc..so I am thinking 25mg of iron and see the doc in 3 months for labs? or?? The only time I have taken iron was back 17 years ago because of anemia caused by a ruptured appendix and did blood work every week for 3 months( I was really low) then told to stop so this is really out in left field .. Guest guest
Sounds like a pretty good plan... taking the 25 mg per day so as not to flood your system is logical. Keeping up a steady and consistent dose between now and your labs in three months should build up your reserves and get your levels stabilized.. the labs will then be able to show if you should continue at that dose, increase or cut back. Considering your diet restrictions, I'd be guessing that you wouldn't be able to stop all together... Just my two cents....
