AANA CEU's are being applied for Trauma 2007 Fort Worth, the ninth annual Methodist Fort Worth Hospital trauma conference continues in its objective to create an annual forum for discussing the multifaceted issues that comprise the care and treatment of trauma patients. The primary education methods used will be lecture, case presentation, audience interaction, slides and discussion. LIVE AT THE EXPO! Methodist Fort Worth Hospital (HMFW) and Methodist Northwest Hospital (HMNW), part of the Texas Health Resources System (THR), are the first in the nation to privately own a non-military inflatable, portable surge capacity unit. Designed to supplement an existing hospital in the case of an emergency, this civilian portable surge capacity unit will be used exclusively for emergency needs such as: mass casualty events, quarantining patients with an infectious agent or communicable disease, bioterrorism or terrorist attack or a pandemic flu outbreak, an issue recently gaining public and medical community attention. Course Objectives At the end of this activity, the participants will be able to: * Discuss the importance of effective communication between trauma centers * Describe the most current trends in caring for patients injured by lightning strikes and electrical burns * Identify effective communication tools during a disaster * Identify methods for efficient triage * Recognize the need for prompt mass evacuation * Be familiar with pulmonary complications that arise from near drowning * Analyze the technique of healthcare crisis intervention and debriefing Target Audience and Course Information This conference has been designed for practicing surgeons, emergency physicians, registered nurses, prehospital providers, residents and students involved in the care of the trauma patient.
