Some people that do have problems making decisions are often covered with anxiety because of this. For many they have a fear of not pleasing others or pleasing the right people (wanting parents, spouses, etc.) to be proud of them. Sometimes they are afraid that if they make the wrong decision the house of cards they have built for themself might crumble down. What you'll need to do is figure out why you make the decisions that you do and what reasons you give yourself for those situations. For instance:

I think I want to leave the window closed at night because of the heat cutting on, it will save me money...

vs

I don't want to leave the window open because I'm afraid a tick will crawl in and bite me while I sleep and give me lyme disease... (if you're interested, someone really said this to me once). It wasn't that funny, except that she lived on the 2nd or 3rd floor of an apartment building and had window screens....

Reasoning and clarity when making decisions is sometimes thrown out the window with thyroid problems and can be the undiagnosed/un-noticed link to finding out what is wrong. Many doctors have a fear of conquering or at least peering around at what is inside the brain for fear that they will get over their heads. No pun intended. For others they are too quick to just assume that someone has a mental illness and give them their daily dose of 'candy' and send them on their way.

I am not in any way saying that you have a mental illness! What I am saying is that people sometimes are diagnosed too quickly with things when sometimes just reassessing their goals and their plan of action can be enough to help them uncover what the problem really is.

If you have noticed this all of your life, I have these questions for you:

Are you a people pleaser? Do you have trouble saying no or giving a definative answer? Do you often compromise yourself to please others or do you seek praise from others? Are you indecisive because you are not confident in your abilities? When making decisions, do you have to review simple questions for weeks before obtaining an answer? Do you have trouble with accountability? People often use the 'I don't know' defense in order to shirk responsibility because they don't have confidence that they can make clear decisions without the help of others.

Many many people suffer anxiety like this. The anxiety can be so strong that it starts to interfere with daily life and is often misdiagnosed as ADD or ADHD, typically in adults. Many people find that if they limit the causes to their anxiety (dealing with older 'root' issues, etc.) that they are more able to function normally with no problems. Not having a clear plan of dealing with anxiety when it happens can cause a sleu of health problems and other lifestyle problems.

If you feel that might be you, you can ask yourself these questions:

Who first made you feel like you were not worth it?

Who first made you feel like your opinion did not matter?

When you were younger, can you think back to a time when you were not so indecisive? Can you compare what is different in your life now to find your 'lynchpin'?

Who in your life has encouraged your indecisive tendancies? Yes, sometimes we can be sabatoged by the people we think love us.

What current problems do you feel you have in your life? Do you have an active plan to resolve them? Is the plan working?

Are you open and accepting to change in your life? Many people who have problem with this question often have problems accepting change and personal growth because they feel change is a bad thing because (usually when younger - not necessarilly in childhood) a type of change happened that was destructive to their environment (divorce -to themselves or parents-, rape, molestation, accidents, etc.)

I hope this email can help you to better understand yourself and help you find your lost keys to unlocking yourself :).

Let me know if I can assist you in any way....

Just to make you feel like I'm not some wierd quack LOL...

I am a Life Coach, that means that I focus on coaching people through difficult time periods in their lives by helping them to identify obstacles that may be in their way and by helping them to create a plan of action to not limit their end goals.

Life Coaching is NOT a form of psychology or psychiatry. Although I will be more than happy to work along with a counselor and I will refer clients to seek medical help should their problems exceed my expertise.

My two main focuses are: Working with people who are afraid of living to their complete potential (which in one way or another is almost everyone LOL) and Spiritual conflict resolution. I will work with other situations if I feel that I could offer something to the person asking for my help.
