My liver has problems too..something called the P-450 detox pathway which I really don't understand. Thank you for asking. It means a lot to know how many people care truly care about the well being of others. :-) To try and answer your question would be difficult since I do not exactly what caused it. And the doctors sort of scratch their heads too. I know that my immune system worked overtime, sort of like cancer cells multiplying too rapidly, killing off good cells. It is does not respond like regular hepatitis does that can be treated with anti-biotics and it goes away. There are really no clear cut answers. The only symptoms I have were extreme fatique, joint inflammation and pain, psoriasis, and an increase in my liver enzymes. The fatique had been going on for about 3 years and the other started a year or so ago. A liver biopsy was done which showed 2/3 of my liver diseased already, and if not treated would have led to failure/ transplant, etc, if not gotten under control... The rest is history. I was started on a large dose of prednisone which has gotten my liver enzymes down almost in the normal range, praise GOD, and is helping the Psoriatic Arthritis too since it also respond to steroid treatment; no pain, inflammation of the joints, and the psoriasis is clearing up. The drawback to this kind of treatment is that my with my immune system being suppressed, I have to be careful of infection. And, all the problems with the pred. as we talked about in the earlier post. I posted a web site a few weeks back telling about AIH auto immune hepatitis ( that word really scares people). It did me too until I got a crash course in hepatitis and liver diseases. They are 2 totally different things.. and the autoimmune is very difficult to treat, than the viral and infectious is. Here is the link if you want to read more about it. http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/autoimmunehep/index.htm I am going to look up what you have and see if I can find anything about it on the liver message board I post on.
