Guest guest
Hi I am scheduled to have my first Chemo treatment on Monday, Jan.5th. I have a slight sore throat and the sniffles. My husband has the fever and chills and has thrown up. Do I wait till I tell the Doctor or do I call the doctor now? It will be 6 weeks since my operation. I had a lumpectimy, triple negative, negative nodes and clear margins. I am stage 1, grade 3c. Is it safe to wait longer? Will it cause side effects if I have Chemo on top of a cold? How about Airborne - does anyone know if it stops you from having a cold? Jeez! All these considerations to think of. If anyone can help with the answers it would be great. Thanks Dee
Guest guest
It is generaly safe to wait up to 3 months after surgery to begin chemo. If I were you, I would call your onc and let him know what is going on, as far as your health is concerned. My family uses airborne and has found it quite effective. It is important to start using it at the first sign of a cold and use as directed. Guest guest
Dee, It is always best to check with your doctor if you are in doubt of health issues.. I don't believe they will give you the treatment, but I am not really familiar with the chemo thing since I refused to have it myself. Each person to their own, and we have to make decisions we feel are best for oiur own bodies. Guest guest
Hi Dee, Studies have shown chemo is most effective if started 8-12 weeks from your operation. You should let your doctor know you have a cold, but I think that won't stop the treatment from starting (I had a cold during part of my treatment). My sister who's a doctor recommends Airborne. I'm not sure if it stops a cold, but it should make you feel better. take care,

Guest guest
Dee, the best advice.... call your doctor. I had to cancel my first biopsy due to the flu (throwing up kind). Dh thought I was just nervous and I said, I think I know when I'm nervous and when I'm sick. The hospital was very understanding and your doctor will be too. Just let him make the decision and you won't have to worry about it. Barb Michigan Don't Know what to do Hi I am scheduled to have my first Chemo treatment on Monday, Jan.5th. Guest guest
-Hi Dee: My name is Penny. I Don't have any great advice about having the flu and chemo...I am newly diagnosed with breast cancer myself. I was wondering, after reading your email, about what your " treatment plan " is with the chemo? I also am stage I, triple negitave, grade 3 (what does the grade 3c mean in your email?) My " chemo cocktail " consists of Cytoxan, Taxotere and Adriamycin. Is this what your doctor suggest for you? I get a " port " put in on Jan. 3rd and Chemo will start for me the week after. Did your doctor suggest a " port? " After my lumpectomy, my surgeon lead me to believe that this cancer thing was " no big deal " ...that we could take care of it realitvly easy. Then I saw the oncologist and it turns out my cancer is the " most aggressive " kind of cell and she said we have to treat it with the " most aggressive " kind of chemo. I was floored. I didn't know that one kind could be worse than the other...I thought cancer was cancer. Yesterday I had a ton of test done to see if it had traveled. I find the results of those test next week after the port. is put in. I also had a sentinal node biopsy...they found cells in the first node..but called the biopsy negitive. My oncologist said that cells can travel and leave no trace that they have been there, so it is possible that they did go further than the first node. Did you experience any of this? I look forward to your response..You are the first person on here that I have noticed same charactoristics of this stupid diease.
