Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I have been so quiet on this group for so long, you have probably forgotten me. The reason for this is I have been occupied with other health concerns. The first being a probable mitochondrial myopathy which is a problem with the cells in my muscles utilizing energy leaving me with weakened muscles and spasms and being in a general state of exhaustion. This added to the Hashimotos and COPD. Then, just to mix it up a little, they found a mass in my right lung and they where sure is was lung cancer. Well 3 CT Scans, 2 Bronchoscopies and a Stress Echocardiogram for my heart later… they haven't a clue. So now it is just wait and see. I will have another CT Scan at the end of this month and if it has grown the Doc wants to do a Pet Scan and probably turn me over to MD Cancer Hosp in Houston. He isn't quite willing to say it is not cancer, but I don't think so. Anyway, along the way I found an OTC remedy for brain fog. And possible help for weight loss. There are no real treatments for Mito except what is called the Mito Cocktail which is comprised of: CoQ10 Levo carnitine Alpha lipoic acid. And a few other odds and ends. Well before I got the prescription for the Levo carnitine [the only one in prescription form] I was taking Acetyl L carnitine and I have to say my brain fog cleared up. It doesn't even seem to matter if the fog is from stress or a side effect of whatever disease is disrupting your brain. The difference between Levo Carnitine [l-carnitine] and Acetyl Carnitine is that Acetyl can pass the blood brain barrier so I am taking both. I take 500mgs of Acetyl Carn a day and I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, in Capsule form, because the tablets, even at higher doses don't seem to have the same effect. I am using " NOW " brand of supplements, but I suspect other good brands will work too. I am taking 100 mgs of CoQ10, again in capsule form, although I understand that chewables are pretty good too. The Alpha Lipoic Acid is at 600 mgs a day. And, I am taking about 1000mgs of Levo carnitine per day. Now, and this is important, in my research I have discovered that Levo Carnitine and Alpha Lipoic Acid help burn fat for weight loss as well as giving the muscles more energy to work with. Something many of us with Thyroid problems are struggling with. I haven't been on the Levo carnitine very long [about 2 weeks] and it helps with muscle spasms but I can't speak to its weight loss potential yet. However, side effects are minimal and as far as the Levo Carnitine is concerned you can take up to 3000 mgs per day and the Co Q10 up to a 1000mgs, but that is just too costly for me. As for my thyroid, I need to get the Frees tested, but the last four months have been extremely expensive for me so I will probably get it done next month. I am thinking it may be time to raise it. I have only been taking 90 mgs in the am and 45 mgs in the early afternoon. So that catches me up. C.
Guest guest
I am sort of surprised no one commented on this? Did you think it was a sales pitch or a fake email? I really have had a hell of hard 6 months. I did get my TSH tested and it was kind of low.. but no hyper symtoms, so I guess I am on the correct amount for now. I am certainly not selling anything and the acetyl l carnitine does help with brain fog from stress and hypothyroid or whatever has your brain in la la land... Guest guest
Hi , I'm sorry I didn't respond...I did save your post though for the information on a possible brain fog remedy. I wondered where you went...I always signed my emails as " M " and have only had to sign it " " for quite a while now. I'm sorry you've had such a hard 6 months. I've been having a rough time too and get great advice from everyone here, but I probably don't respond to others about their issues as much as I should. Do you have any more news about the mass in your lung? Guest guest
I had missed this one : I would like to say...the whole supplement thing is hard...since you never want to overlook what might help, but you don't want to go to an inordinant expense only to get no where. The ones you mention sound really good. I did get rid of my brain fog entirely once...and I know I was taking these things...so I can't say they aren't maybe the key here. Thanks... ~E:) --- Teague medstudent2be@...> wrote: > sorry laura, sometimes posts will not go through for > whatever reason. i'll see posts that people will > respond to and i'll have no idea what they've been > talking about LOL. > > > Re: Update > and Possible Help for Brain Fog > > > I am sort of surprised no one commented on this? > Did you think it > was a sales pitch or a fake email? > > I really have had a hell of hard 6 months. Guest guest
I go to have another ct scan at the end of the month. If there is no change or it is larger I think I will just ask the doc to go ahead and refer me to MD because he just wants to wait and see, and I am tired of Waiting. The muscle problems just have me exhausted. It is more likely that my muscles give out way before the lungs do when ever I try to do anything physical. The Acetyl L carnitine really helps brain fog and I hope the levo- carnitine is what is causing the drop in hunger. I hope... I can sure stand to loose weight. But... You hope once they dx the thyroid problems and are treating that the weight will come off.. and when it doesn't, the docs usually have nothing left to offer except to blame you, the patient. Maybe the body has just gotten so use to packing the weight on, it doesn't know how to stop. I am presently trying to find an Internal Med doc, cause the GP I am using has proven to be fairly useless. Guest guest
Hi , I don't blame you - I wouldn't want to wait at all to find out what's going on with your chest. I'm not familiar with your muscle disorder...are you able to get any relief for it? I understand what you mean about weight gain...Endos and Gyns always tell me Hypothyroidism doesn't make you gain weight - eating does. Whatever! Do you think any of your weight is from water?
