Guest guest
Doris, I agree - bananas rule! I found, quite by accident, that I have many fewer bouts of AF if I eat one banana daily. I also increased the amount of fish oil I take to 6000 grams. That helps a lot too. a Update Here's what I have learned or experienced lately. I took rhythmol briefly last fall, gradually went into persistent atrial flutter, then stopped and went back to cardizem. Things went back to normal for me. When I saw the cardiologist, he explained that rhythmol does create persistent atrial flutter for some people. Anyone have an idea why that is? When I eat a banana every 4 or so days, my heart is much less excitable. I've been trying this for a while, seeing whether the effect is real or just coincidental. I do the banana plan for a month, then a month without. Bananas rule! Afib starts less often, and I can get it to stop more quickly, within a few minutes, with the bananas. I've discovered another method to get atrial flutter to stop -- looking up at the ceiling. Usually if I do this for about 10-15 seconds, there start to be interruptions in the fast regular beats which gradually slow down into afib and then go back to NSR. I've added this to my list of interruption methods which include breathing out slowly, holding my breath, leaning forward over pillows, and leaning to the left. I have no idea why any of this stuff works. One person suggested that I'm stimulating the vagal nerve -- ?? Anyway, afib for me is turning out to be a lot like hiccups. You can think this is crazy and superstitious, but I'm going to keep doing it because it works for me. Doris -- 3 years with paroxysmal afib taking Cardizem LA 360mg daily
Guest guest
I assume you mean that you take 6000 mg of fish oil, not 6000 grams. Unless you are actually drinking 5 gallons of pure fish oil every day. Mike in Minnesota > > Doris, > > I agree - bananas rule! Guest guest
I have not been on much as I have been busy banging my head against a wall trying to figure things out.. Finally had my dietican appt today. Very nice person , but honestly more clueless than me. So now I am back to my gp and allergist tommorrow. I have IBS..now with all the nickel foods I need to avoid, all the foods I eat to control my IBS is off my list?? I now need to see the GP to get some meds to help the IBS so I do not end up sick while I illiminate the nickel from my diet. I also get to see the allergist tommorrow to let him know how my diet is going..lol I have lost 5 lbs over christmas, my thigh muscles and my arms are sore..took down the curtains to wash in the kitchen and trying to rehang them with the arms above the head was impossible. My pulse is high, and I am not sleeping very well as I sit and shake in bed..not good I know..but thinking I am going to wait a month on the diet to see how it plays out..do have a FT4 lab slip incase I need it.. Question for the vitamin knowledgeable ... I am also allerigc to Cobalt Chloride..synthetic B12 is a Cobalt compound..explains why I had such a reaction to the B complex.. I know B 12 is natural in meats and I need to increase my protien and all processed meats etc are out...but real meat is ok.. But no multivitamin for me as I need to avoid both nickel and B12.. The dietican did say a few things that made sense though.. Not to take any B vitamins on there own.. Carragean is a must avoid at all costs..both Seafood and Soy are high in nickel and Carragean was first derived from Seafood and now is chemically made from Soy..and in the body acts similair to MSG which I am also allergic to.. I am amazed at how many people are given a diagnosis 5-6 and more times that is absolutely wrong!I see myself heading to that show one day/.JackieI have not been on much as I have been busy banging my head against a wall trying to figure things out..Finally had my dietican appt today. Guest guest
Have you eliminated all 'High Fructose Corn Syrup' from your diet. I know that it contributes to IBS and it's found in just about everything. It took me a while to 'clean' my kitchen, but there is no longer even a smidge of that harmful ingredient in the house. I lost weight when I eliminated it too because it's a major contributor to cravings... Guest guest
I would love to know what channel it comes on, as I've never seen even a hint of it. Would love to watch it. I heard about it from this group originally, I think, but have never seen it on the Tv Guide. Re: Update Does anyone watch that show Wrong Diagnosis, or something like that? I have IBS..I have had IBS I think since 1990- 91.normally I do quite well with a high fibre diet with the exception of not saying no to a barbecue or no eating when I have the flu you would not know I have IBS.. Problem now is on a scale of 1-3 I am a 4 plus with Nickel for allergies..all high fibre food is very high in nickel. Throw in msg and sulphite allergy, no carragean and no soya because of nickel and so far my cupboards consist of 2 boxes of pasta that I can have..so HFC is not possible for me to find in a product that I am allowed to eat.. Guest guest
Kat Please tell me where you got the info that all high fiber food is high in nickel, this has been unknown to me. I know that I am allergic to certain metals worn next to my skin, as in 10 ct gold, but not to the purest form of gold. I was told yrs ago that that is because of the nickel in the metal, mixed in, and that I am more likely allergic to that, instead of the gold. We've all been told to eat nothing BUT a high fiber diet. Nickel?? In my whole grain or my green veggies??????????? I would certainly understand you or I either one (or anyone else for that matter) feeling very discouraged or angry about an allergy to such a basic " good " type of food. What do our digestive tracts do for real exercise any more, other than just sit there and " gel " , without getting any real workout? I'm hating this already, with the allergies I've got, why not add another one and go without eating altogether. GGGGGGGGrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!! Re: Update > > Let me reword this.. Try this site..it is one the dietican pulled up for me.. http://allergies.about.com/cs/nickel/a/aa011000a.htm The allergist has given me a much more indepth list from Contact Dermatitis, unfortunately I can not access it with out a pay prescription.. On the about site, also type in Nickel, follow the about links( not the ads) and it will tell you why and if you need to avoid nickel in the diet. Some 14k gold and anything lower contains Nickel..I am the same way and also can not wear any of the cosmetic jewelery( cheap stuff) ..I knew I was allergic to Nickel, just not how bad it was, and to be honest until the allergist tested to see how bad it was and gave me the list of dietary foods to avoid.. If you want the full list the allergist gave me let me know. As far as testing goes it is a simple patch test that they place on the skin and check in 48 hours.. another test you could do is all coins except for pennies contain nickel, dimes are lower but nickels and quarters are pretty high..it takes roughly 3 mins when wet to transfer the nickle to the skin so grab some wet coins, and hold them in your hand for 5-10 mins..if your hands rash or are itchy then most likely it is nickel..
