Currently she has an orange, apple and kiwi and 5 slices of whole wheat bread a day. Maybe I'm overreacting. Any help would be appreciated. Hi Phyllis, I would suggest that you call her doctor and ask him/her to schedule an appointment for your mom to see a nutritionist. A nutritionist can set up a meal plan that would be suitable for your mom. hugs Eunice

It is Gretchen Becker's first year of type 2 diabetes, or something similar to that. I can understand what you are going through. My mom was diagnosed last year. Finally, we gave up trying to get her to eat all the right foods. She still eats food that she should not, but does eat a smaller amount. Her last 2 A1c's have been 5.3 or less. hugs Eunice
Guest guest
Hi, I am new here and joined so I could get information to help my MIL who lives with us and has Type II Diabetes. She is 80,has had diabetes for 20 yrs, takes Metformin and Glyburide. I prepare Dinner and she takes care of herself for Breakfast and Lunch. The past 6 months or so she's changed her eating habits for the worse and her 3 month test has gone up to 8 and her blood pressure along with it. I'm not very tactful and tried to sit down with her the other day and tell her she needs to cut her consumption of bread and fruit and cut out the regular jelly. I know it's not easy for her, at the same time I get a bit discouraged when I make a nice salad with chicken for dinner and she hauls out the breadsticks and has an apple for desert. I'm thinking I may be going about it the wrong way, and if I can tell her what she should eat instead of what she shouldn't it might be more helpful. Sorry I'm so long winded. Can anyone tell me how many carbs she should have for each meal or for the day? If anyone has any general menus especially breakfast, lunch and snacks I would appreciate it. How much fruit and bread would she be allowed? Currently she has an orange, apple and kiwi and 5 slices of whole wheat bread a day. Maybe I'm overreacting. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. She's had nutritionial and Diabetes counciling and either doesn't grasp it or doesn't want to. That's one of the reasons I'm trying to step in and help and learn all I can. Is there a book you could recommend that I could read? Phyllis > >

I'm glad to know, my MIL isn't the only one not eating the right foods, and she knows how important it is because she keeps having to have laser surgery on the blood vessels in her eyes.I appreciate your help and insite. Guest guest
I read the book Eunice is talking about. It's excellent. I often refer back to it even though it's been 3 years. It's very informative and helpful. Easy read. Re: Re: Would Like Advice and Information In a message dated 6/19/2006 5:32:24 P.M.
