Guest guest
_M. D. Cancer Center_ (http://www.mdanderson.org/) _http://www.mdanderson.org/_ (http://www.mdanderson.org/) I was treated at MD 15 years ago. It is a wonderful place full of very helpful people. I put the link to their website above for you. Check out the new patient section. Many local hotels give large discounts to patients and also have shuttle service to the hopsital all day and well into the evening. (they give chemo pretty much round the clock there). They also have apartments available nearby for patients that have to stay for long periods of time. Wigs are available (1 free) in the beauty shop (it used to be in the basement-not sure anymore). You will get lots of support and help from the people and volunteers who work there. They also have a support system that will pair your mom with someone who has experience with the same type of cancer she has to talk to, usually on the phone. Its called the MD Network. Just take advantage of all the programs and help they provide, it is there for a reason. The first visit is usually the worst, long waiting time. But from then on everything goes quickly, in my experience. I was a homeschooling mom for many years. My son is now 15 and in ninth grade at a private Christian school. I have gone back to college and will graduate in May. I'm also a 15 year survivor of inflammatory breast cancer, diagnosed while pregnant. I was treated at MD in a trial with other pregnant breast cancer patients. Hope this helps you out somewhat, good luck to you and your Mom. hugs Pam in Louisiana
