Guest guest
a, Yes, I do eat 5 small meals per day of 1/2 cup maximum per meal. So here is what I've eaten today so far: 1/2 c. mixed unsweetened peaches & cherries 1 chicken thigh 1/2 c. mashed potatoes It is now 7:30 pm so I may only eat one more time today depending on how late I'm up. Perhaps I'll have 1/2 c. cottage cheese or some veggies. I had Open RNY on 12/11/02 and was instructed by my surgeon and the registered dietician upon discharge from the hospital to eat 4 to 6 mini meals per day and no more than 1/2 cup per meal. Sometimes I cannot even finish the serving because I fill up too quickly. Other times I can eat the whole 1/2 cup. I will be 4 months post-op next Friday and so far have lost 63 pounds. I think I am somewhere in the middle as far as speed of weight loss is concerned. I have yet to experience a plateau, and know that might come some time. My weight loss has been sure and steady. I am comfortable with my progress and am at a weight I have not seen in more than 10 years! I feel terrific! Hope this helps! Rev. Pam in PA Re: Digest Number 5071 Please....one more time someone who is on a good supplement program, please list what and how much you are taking. I am trying to order today and can't find my list. This list is awsome....thanks from the bottom of my heart! Scheduled for 4/14/03 and trying to get all my ducks in a row.
Guest guest
Rev. Pam, this sounds wonderful, as long as it's working for you. I try to eat something about every three hours... Sometimes that works, but more often, something I eat last longer than the hour I'm expecting, so I don't dive into my water until the full feeling starts to fade... that seems to happen when the food is denser than fruit, when it's meat-based. Once the full feeling fades, I drink about 16 ounces of water, then have a protein drink, then as much more water as I can until a little before the next food time three hours later... This seems to be working for me. It seems to stave off the head hunger. I tell myself, on bad days, that I can eat only after I've drunk 16 ounces of water and a protein drink and maybe 12 more ounces.... By then, hopefully, I've held off a reasonable time.... I don't keep anything 'bad' around here. What I eat is good stuff. Sometimes my head tells me that I want to eat more of it than I should. My pouch keeps me in line. Cheers! Sharon in D.C. Guest guest
Sharon, You are doing great pumping in all that water! I know it really helps me too! And some days, like yesterday I ate only 4 times because you're right some foods do hold me over longer . . . cottage cheese, chicken etc. I take each day as it comes knowing that if I felt the need to I could eat 6 mini meals. Never have and don't even feel near that point. The water constantly going in keeps that full feeling too, and I more times than not feel thirsty before I feel hunger! Keep up the good work! Guest guest
Dear , I've read that many anti-depressants cause weight gain and increased hunger. In fact, they put on MIL on Effexor (during her terrible bout with colitis two months ago) to see if it would help her with her appetite and gain some weight. Do you exercise, swim, walk...? These can be powerful plateau busting tools, I've found out. Take good care, Love, Trace in Va. Beach, VA Dr. Schechner, Va. Guest guest
Pam, Thanks for the info!! How many calories do you consume in a day? This questions goes out for everyone how many calories does someone consume that has had an open RNY? Thanks, a Re: Digest Number 5071 Please....one more time someone who is on a good supplement program, please list what and how much you are taking. I am trying to order today and can't find my list. Guest guest
Hey Gang........ Just wondering about something. I've had plateau's before, but....... in the last week, I have GAINED almost 6 lbs. How is this possible . I am very boring, eat the same things most of the time. Very healthy. I push the water, etc. ONLY thing that is different is about 2 weeks ago, my doc put me on Zoloft. I don't think it causes weight gain. It's not " that time of the month " or anything that I would be retaining water, so I am at a loss. I've been at a standstill once or twice, but never gained. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, , IL Lap-RNY Jan 21, 2003 -48 lbs Re: Digest Number 5071 > > > > > > Please....one more time someone who is on a good supplement program, > > please list what and how much you are taking. Guest guest
a, I would say approximately 750 calories per day on the average.
