Guest guest
Can anyone tell me how to dissolve these Solutabs?!?! I clogged a tube today and I'm just livid! (Has to go down the GTube) So much for following the directions... Thanks!!! Janay Rasha's mom
Guest guest
This is more of a long term solution, but I would ask your doctor to specify that the solutabs need to be compounded into a suspension because they are clogging the g-tube. The pharmacist can grind the little balls into a powder and combine it with a buffered sodium bicarbonate solution that keeps for several weeks in the fridge (if they try to tell you it isn't stable and can't be done, I can give you our pharmacists number--he does it all the time for us, and got the recipie from the pharmacy at Children's in Seattle). Good luck, (mom to Evan, 18 months) jkhayes95 wrote: Can anyone tell me how to dissolve these Solutabs?!?! I clogged a tube today and I'm just livid! Guest guest
We get ours in a packet. Mix it with 30ml of water and give only 15ml. & , parents to twins: Olivia walking and JD(cHArgE: Choanal Atresia, Heart Repair, TE-F Repair, G-Tube, Trach, on CPap, severe to profound hearing loss) 16 months , Waxahachie, Texas
Guest guest
Keeps for several weeks? I was under the mistaken impression it won't last that long. I was starting to wonder what I was doing wrong because 2 different Dr have prescribed the SoluTabs even after I said I had problems the first time! Thanks for the info. Guest guest
The secret that it has to be buffered. It won't keep if it is dissolved in plain water. You can also ask that the suspension be made from the regular capsules--that's what ours is made from currently. Some payors (ie insurances) want you to use the solutabs instead of the capsules, maybe it's cheaper. (mom to Evan, 18 months) jkhayes95 wrote: Keeps for several weeks? Guest guest
I'll try the juice tomorrow. Right now I don't give her any juice or water and I know she needs it. Today I warmed about an ounce of water and let the tablet dissolve for nearly 1/2 hour. Drew it up in a 35cc syringe and shook it. That worked out. I am hesitant becuse the directions on the box specifically say administer within 15 minutes. Besides, I'm no chemist. I have enough to without doing science experiments!! :-) Open apology to everyone here...I can see rereading my posts that I am extremely cranky. Nothing a good night's sleep won't cure I'm sure. Guest guest
Why give only half? How's JD been doing lately? I've been off the board for the last week. Up to my ears in homework... Guest guest
I always had better luck putting this stuff in food rather that water or juice. The granuals seemed to " stick " in the syringe with water but with food they would slide right through (apple sauce or baby food). Guest guest
Janay, I may be too late on this one, but Vinny used to get his Prevacid in liquid form. Only Children's Hosptial Pharmacy could dispense it like that, so that is where we went. Other pharmacies (even major hospital pharmacies) did not know how to get it in liquid form. Have you tried a Children's Hospital Pharmacy? I hope all is well otherwise. Happy studying! ina --- jkhayes95 wrote: > Keeps for several weeks? Guest guest
we've tried all 3 variations of prevacid: i found the solutabs to be the worst. we used the compounded liquid before Sam was eating solids, got it after some fight (some docs said it couldn't be done, finally found a GI who wrote the script, and we got it from a compounding pharmacy). This was the easiest. Now we use the powder in the packet, we mix it with his cereal or applesauce. It dissolves great. > We get ours in a packet. Guest guest
I found the same as you as far as people thinking it couldn't be done. the local Walgreens said they would mix it for me. I'm thinking that or the packets might work best. I have solutabs sitting in water and one in apple juice for the last 3 hours. I think they're made of cement. Janay > > > We get ours in a packet. Guest guest
Interesting. When Eddie first started prevacid I was told that it could not be mixed with food and should be given 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to breakfast. He takes the 30 mg solutabs orally, we put some water on the spoon and more on the tablet to soften it up before he takes it. > Now we use the powder in the packet, we mix it with > his cereal or applesauce. Guest guest
Only a pharmacy that does " compounding " will mix up the Prevacid as a suspension. It's great that you found a Walgreens that will do it. I've had the best luck with independant pharmacies (I've had to get eye drops compounded for my patients before too), and sometimes you have to ask the pharmacist if they know of another pharmacist who does do compounding. Unfortunately, " can't " in this case really means " I don't have time to research the recipie and then spend the extra time it would take me to mix it up for you. " I'll tell you right now, this CAN be done. It's just not as easy as dumping distilled water into a bottle of premeasured powder and shaking it up. Guest guest
When I looked on the Prevacid website yesterday it said the same about not mixing the powder with food cause it doesn't work as well crushed or chewed.
