Guest guest
Do any of you have chest pain following exercise or AF? I have been experiencing chest pain that lasts for hours to days following moderate exercise or longer bouts of AF. The AF usually lasts 1-2 hours before it causes this type of pain. I like to walk on the treadmill about an hour a day, but I have started having chest pains when I do my walks. The pain is much like a muscle strain pain. I have a hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in addition to AF. I am not sure how concerned I should be about this or if I should contact my EP about it. Can medication cause this? I am taking Tikosyn, Diltiazam, & Coumadin. Thank you. Lori

Since your handle infers that you are young it is strange that you have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. And the normal path would be that you have AF due to the prior problem not the other way around. I would Google the word Merck and look at the on-line Merck manual which has a good explanation of what you have. I also think a good work up with a cardiologist rather than an EP should be the order of the day, and no medication does not generally cause this kind of pain. Did you get an OK from a cardiologist to do physical exercist to the extent that you are doing it? If not you should seek out a consult and discuss these pains with him/her. Basically your pumper is enlarged and has a stiffened wall, and with AF your pain is more than likely from lack of good blood flow. Best wishes, and God speed wellness. Guest guest
Your kidding right? GET YOUR BUTT INTO THE DOCTORS OFFICE! With any luck he will dismiss you with " gas " of muscle pain. But let him decide, your heart is too important and it is OK to waste the Doctors time! Lori youngfibber36@...> wrote: Do any of you have chest pain following exercise or AF? Guest guest
One month ago I started having chest pains along with my AF and it turned out that I had two blocked arteries. You'd better have it checked out ASAP. I had a stress test which came out abnormal and then a cardiac catheterization which showed the blocked arteries, both are quick and painless. Good luck. eds4654 eds4654@...> wrote: > > Do any of you have chest pain following exercise or AF? Guest guest
My EP told me that walking is good for me. I have been increasing the intensity though so maybe I should have another discussion with him about this. I was born with the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and the AF developed when I was about 30. It has only been in the past couple of years that I have had significant amounts of AF. I do have an EP, but I don't have a seperate cardiologist. Is it important to have a cardiologist and an EP? (I will go to a doctor tomorrow.) Thanks ED. Lori > > > > Do any of you have chest pain following exercise or AF? Guest guest
I know that it sounds ridiculous that I haven't gone to the doctor. I have just experienced soooooo many problems over the past couple of years that I feel like I am always at the doctor. It also seems like they rarely can offer me much relief. Of course, you are right about going to the doctor. I will go to the doctor tomorrow. Thanks. Lori > Do any of you have chest pain following exercise or AF? Guest guest
Lori - I know exactly how you feel. With so much going on it is so hard to go to the docgtor with one more problem you will have to wrestle with. Phyllis > > Do any of you have chest pain following exercise or AF? Guest guest
Thanks for the support. I did go to the doctor today about the chest pains. My EP was in surgery all day so I went to my primary care physician. He suspected that I strained a muscle because chest pain doesn't usually last for days if it is heart related. I told him that the pain comes and goes, but I have been having it consistently since Tuesday and that I have had several bouts of it over the past year. He still did not think that it was my heart. My EKG was consistent with my usual EKG, so that is good. Still, I don't understand how I strained a muscle in my chest while working out on a treadmill and then hiking with no load. It is possible that I bent wrong or did something to strain the muscle, but I sure don't remember doing anything like that. With all that I have been through, it is possible that I am just paranoid about any pain in my chest. I do work out a lot and it is possible that it is muscle strain. Is there anyone else out there who has AF & a cardiomyopathy who know if chest pain is a symptom? Next week I am going to see my EP to talk to him about it. Thanks, Lori > > > Do any of you have chest pain following exercise or AF? Guest guest
Insist on a stress test....DEMAND one! You cannot tell anything from an ECG, believe me...I do this for a living! Guest guest
Lori, I strained a muscle in my chest once, picking up something that was too heavy. It was a long, long time before it totally went away. In the mean time I found myself hunching my shoulders because it felt better and my posture suffered. At that time, I was into yoga and that helped my posture and the pain finally went away. It took a long time. a Re: Heart Pain Thanks for the support.
