Guest guest
Hi Louise. when my hair started coming out of course it came out in clumps and i noticed more and more on my pillow. It was so devastating I cried and cried. I called one of the cancer support groups and the person I spoke with was very compassionate and supportive. she told me the best thing to do would be to have it cut short immediately so as the hair continued to fall it would not be so devastating. I actually went over to my Mother's and she called her hairdresser and Renne came to the house and cut it for me which was great because I didn't have to go to a salon. Cancer is a bitch to deal with and the treatments are awful, but the hair loss is right up there too. -------------- Original message -------------- > > Hi Everyone. > > I started my Chemo treatments two weeks ago tomorrow, and I was hoping > to have hair for Christmas.... Guest guest
Hi Jeannie, If you're taking Adriamycin, you will most likely lose your hair about 12 days after the 1st treatment. It happened very suddenly for me, but I had my wig and caps ready. I made it through Christmas with my hair, but New Year's eve, before we were hosting a family party, I realized it was just falling out, so I shaved it. My husband shaved his head too. It was very annoying to see his hair start growing back immediately while I remained bald! He wants to include a picture of us with bald heads on our Christmas letter, but I don't think so! - jeanniennc@... wrote on 12/18/2006, 11:13 PM: > > i've heard of a few women who did not lose their hair while on > chemo...has > anyone else had that experience? i dont start chemo til jan---i'm > praying > that i dont lose my hair (silly prayer, yes). Guest guest
I was on a/c plus taxotere and lost my hair two weeks after my 1st chemo. I had a hair shaving party where a bunch of my friends and I ate BBQ, drank beer and shaved my head. It gave me control over the process instead of losing a bit at a time. You have to do what will be easier for you.
Guest guest
Louise, I didn't loose all my hair it just thinned. But if my cancer returns I will shave my head because it didn't come back like it was. Since you are not ready to shave your head I would definitely get a very short hair cut. Guest guest
Well Louise, I start my chemo this summer and I am done now. I had 4 sections of A/C and I will start Herceptin after the new year. I lost my hair two weeks into my first chemo. The same way it's happening to you, way how it started for me.. I also had long hair. I first start to cut it down when I saw it was falling. then my husband had to shave it off. It was just falling that much, I couldn't do it. I hope that this journey brings your strength and positive thinking.. good luck and god bless --- LaKrueger ladyrox44@...> wrote: > Hi Everyone. > > I started my Chemo treatments two weeks ago > tomorrow, and I was hoping > to have hair for Christmas.... Guest guest
I also have been losing my hair. If your hair is long I found a trick. Gently comb it and pull it into a low ponytail. I have been able to hang on to mine about 10 days longer. Maybe this will at least get you through the holidays. Guest guest
My sister in law did not lose her hair. She has stage 4 adenocarcinoma not breast cancer, but she did go through chemo and did not lose her hair. She also had a port put into her head for additional chemo and the only hair she lost was where they shaved it to put the port in. I'm not sure what types of chemo she received. Keep saying your prayers, because we all prayed for her and it seemed to work:) jeanniennc@... wrote: i've heard of a few women who did not lose their hair while on chemo...has anyone else had that experience? i dont start chemo til jan---i'm praying that i dont lose my hair (silly prayer, yes). Guest guest
Hi Louise, I was told that I'd lose mine 2 weeks into my chemo and couldn't bear to go through " the process " so I had it shaved off! It was one of my better decisions (for me). The place where I purchased my wig offered to shave my head when I was ready and she did it in about 60 seconds (with my chair faced away from the mirror). My hair was long too, so after my diagnosis, I had it cut short so it wouldn't be so traumatic. Now, my hair is growing in (about 2 inches now) curly! Always had stick straight hair before chemo. I don't know if it will stay curly, but ANY hair is better than none I guess. I was luckier in that I was " bald " during the summer months. I can imagine that your head will be cold losing it this time of year. Lot's of pretty hats out there though. Smiles to you! Originally, I thought that losing my hair was " the worst " part of all of this, but after it happened, I really didn't miss it that much. I never wore the wig that I bought (it was just too uncomfortable and not ME). Hang in there girlfriend, it's all part of the process and one more step towards the end of your treatment. Best of luck! Hugs! Ellen > > Hi Everyone. > > I started my Chemo treatments two weeks ago tomorrow, and I was hoping > to have hair for Christmas.... Guest guest
Louise - I was told that " my hair would be gone before our next treatment " (I was getting A/C every three weeks) I noticed ALOT of hair coming out at around the two week mark (all over my pillow and in the sink) so I went and got a crew cut - I didnt shave it off, just buzzed it down to the quick...). That was in June - now, I'm done with chemo (a month ago), and I have about 1/4th inch of hair on my head...it feels like velvet (my son's words, but he's right), and while not quite curly, it's mighty " swirly " (for want of a better word)... More than the hair on top of the head, my eyebrows came out (which is worse than my hair - eyebrows give our faces so much expression, you know - and I am truely uncoordinated when it comes to putting on any make-up...) eyelashes, the faint mustache over my lip, the hairs inside my nose (!) pubic hair, underarm hair, and leg hair - odd about the leg hair though, it all came out, except for one stripe of hair down each shin Like Ellen, I got a wig that I never wore, because it was so NOT me...I did, though, get a hair peice - longish hair attached to a band - worn with a hat/scarf over it...very " hippy " ...(regarding the wig, my insurance paid for 80% of the cost--then I gave it away...) good lck to you - beginning this process sometimes feels daunting...days seemed to drag on - like they did when I was a kid waiting for my brthday or christmas - " that day will NEVER COME!! " but it does...honest... take care peace marisa > > Louise > > >

Guest guest
Hi Louise I had my second chemo last Tuesday and my hair started falling out in the shower by Wednesday- I had a big breakdown and got freaked out by it. And then my sister in law came over and trimmed it shorter (not shaved). My husband said to me " It is just Hair " " It will grow back " , " It's ok to let it go " - he also said " we have vacums and don't worry about where it goes " . I have been clinging to the words now everyday since. It is not who I am- although it sucks and I only have a few tufts of hair remaining- each shower wipes out more. I had to go out in public to my Dr. Appt. yesterday- I tried on a bandana, a bucket hat, a fleece hat, a Britney Spears looking cap and ended up with a baseball hat. It seems too hot to wear hats indoors and even though the baseball hat has a hole in back, I opted for that one since it let air through it. Today I may venture to the grocery store with my husband and take my hat for a test run. It sure is scary!!! Good luck and I am with ya! - (35-Rochester, NY)
