ummm...maybe there is a misprint?

normal core body temp should be in the 97.5 to 99.8 F (36.5-38C) range...

89 F would be a pretty impressive hypothermia in a patient with a heart

beat....

A nurse asked me this morning if I saw Grey's Anatomy last night. Well, --no--I

was on the unit.

Anyway, she asked me what's it called when the body core temperature rises to,

say, 89 F and then drops a little. she couldn't remember what it was referred to

in the show.

I figured I'd ask everyone since I'm going to sleep now and I'll check the

answers later.

Thank you to

everyone in advance who responds.

Rises to 89F from what?????

*I am thoroughly confused now!*

From Dr. Bledsoe's reply of 'afterdrop', I suspect that the missing link

here is that the patient is known to by hypothermic and rewarming has been

started.

At or around 90F, peripheral vasoconstriction would start to ease, and cool,

high lactate, relatively hyperkalemic blood would begin to flow back into

the core, causing the temp to drop again....along with possibly causing

ventricular fibrillation due to the acid and potassium load.

From the low 80s. it was a cold water drowning. The moulaging was fairly

impressive for a TV show.
