How are you and family doing???? Kendra is 20 were have the years

gone???

You have a good memory. Yes, I had open heart 7 years ago and may be

looking at another surgery hear in the not so far future. Surgery was

to repair defect caused by Scarlet Fever. They did a Ross Procedure,

(removed my aortic valve, replaced that with my pulmonary valve than

gave me a donor valve to replace the pulmonary). All that to keep me

off the blood thinners but I developed a clot 3 weeks after surgery

soooo I'm on the warfrin for long term now. My last appointment they

said the donor valve was starting to shrink and leak. Don't have any

symtoms yet so it's a wait and see thing now. Going to have another

sonagram in about 8 months.

But, I feel good and still running my dog in agility so not to

worried. I'm a tough old bird.....LOL

Thanks for asking about our family. :-) Both our older kids have now graduated

from college. Our older daughter then taught in France for a year. Last Spring

she got married. Our son is now in medical school. I think that we moved to

California since you last posted to the list. We came back to our home state so

Kendra could have an appropriate education which seemed to be elusive elsewhere.

:-) My husband is still a chemistry professor.

Amazing about your surgery. Had the Scarlet Fever been when you were a child?

It sounds like great things were done in the surgery and that if there is a need

for a re-repair all should go smoothly. Thank you for the update!!! I think I

will put my thoughts and positive energy and prayers to the idea that no further

surgery is necessary.

Also thanks for all the posts about . His story and your family's

commitment is just priceless. While I remember many details, I am really

enjoying reading the entire experience again.

Best to you!!!!

So much can happen in so few years. What is happening with Kendra

these days? Do you have any Grandkids

yet?

I know what you mean by appropiate education. I work with many

people who are deaf in 's home and the staff. So many that went

to work for us had never worked before and these were married adults

with children. A sad part about it too, was so many of them could not

read or

understand written englsh with comprehension. 's home is waiver

funded so all staff had to go through med testing. First time all of

the staff failed it. We had a deaf college professor(working with our

home) take the test and covert it to ASL and give classes to our

staff. Second time around they all passed it in ASL form. It was hard

making the State Licensing understand why they failed and not shut

our

house down when it had just opened. We really layed down a new road

within PA State MR system for dealling with deaf individuals.

Another really great thing is and his friends have interpreters

for all of their needs but we not only use Hearing English

intertreters

who then they interpret to a deaf interpreter who then converts

everything to ASL in most of appointments and meetings. This works

much better for and friends because the deaf interpreter can

break down to different levels of ASL so that even someone with

severe MR is understanding much of what is going on. We not only got

the MHMR agencies to accept the need for it but all the funding for

it comes through the waiver. Pretty good since we had a hard time

just getting them to agree to one interpreter in the beginning.

ohh, I got up on my soap box now haven't I. You can't imagine how

busy I'm kept in an advocacy roll. I am just now working with 4

different families. It's so unforunate that it has to be a fight for

just basic rights to be honored and funded.

Well enough. I gotta stop.....LOL

Actually thinging of bringing and coming to conference in July.

Take care
