Hi .

I am so sorry to read about you surgery and to see you photos. First things

first. You must ensure any cancer has been removed. Next you want publicity.

I would approach all this from a different angle. And at the moment I am

asking do you know your results and how well can they be relied upon?

Here in Uk we have the GMC the General Medical Council who regulate practicing

doctors/ surgeons etc. I am sure there will be a regulatory body in USA or the

country or state that did your surgery. One of the ladies in this group will

tell you who it is.

My next approach would be a letter to the practice manager/executive director

of the hospital where you had the surgery and although you don't want the same

surgeon anywhere within 10 miles of you, the practice must be informed. Just

mention that their inabilty to respond within 2 days will result in legal action

and that you will be seeking assistance from so and so television station,

newspapers (name one or two) and your, (now I am stuck because here in Uk I

would write to my local member of parliament but there must be an equivalent.

Again someone from the group will advise you ~ I guess it would be someone like

your state governor. All the better is this turns out to be a female.

Write out your story and add the phots and send the sameone to each. Sometimes

you are paid for your story.

Keep records of everything, everyone you write to, telephone, names, what you

asked, what was said etc

Look on the net for tv progammes and email them with you story, quite often

there are tv programme directors who look for stories about malpractice.

Likewise search the newspapers for 'your story' and send it to them.

If you can get an opening into one of these then quite often you get swamped

with surgeons who want to take you on and get the publicity into the bargain.

I guess truthfully all you want is good surgery, whether its about redoing

the present or actually going for reconstruction and most essentially knowing

that all the cancer has been removed rather than looking for compensation,

though that would be good if you can get it but the process is slow.

I know you are suffering mentally at the moment, my emotional state would be

in shreds and I not only sympathise but empathise too because I have been in a

similar situation with a radiotherapy burn that burnt me down to the sternum

bone and wept and bled for 7 years before a surgeon would touch it (but years

ago I was a scardey cat and wouldn't have said boo to a goose, now I speak out

and woe betide anyone who says one thing and does another.

I know it is so extremely hard to do put switch off for a few hours and stop

thinking about the way you look and the way you feel, get into constructive mode

and start fighting for yourself ~ start some action on your own behalf, ask

someone to help you to get the wording correct ~ you want facts, dates name of

surgeon, name of hospital, details of what you were told to expect, the

photographs and a short piece, but a weighted piece about your feelings

including the fact that at the present time you are unaware if the cancer has

been dealt with (if that is the case) Don't add anything that isn't true, you

have no need as this is serious enough and should appeal on it's own merit

through the local or national newspapers or television. Copies of your letters

and email should also be sent to your health insurance company. Keep a folder of

all responses.

Neglect is a difficult one as it is so hard to prove, yes I agree your

surgery is bad but in legal terms does it constitute neglect? It surely does

constitute incompetence though.

Just 'look at me' approach is sufficient to expose the surgeon and the

hospital without raising any legal terms for now. I would hate someone to

counter sue you so stay away from all legal terms is the best advice I can give.

Here in Uk we have some consumer TV programmes (also on local radio) and quite

often people ring in with offers or surgery, legal support and funding, so give

it a try.

I am just off to get my plane as I am going away to the Canary islands for a

week in the sun with my family so I will miss your reply until I get home but

take a deep breath, reach out, go to someone who can help you write your story

and then email every possible media group, sit back and await responses which I

am sure will come in thick and fast.

Thinking of you and I wish you well. I really hope this is of some help to you

~ best of luck

Re: Re: I NEED HELP

THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY,I TOO HAVE DONE EXTENCIVE SEARCHING ON THE WEBB TRYING

TO FIND ANYTHING THAT LOOKS LIKE THIS HACK JOB I COULDN'T FIND ANY..I DO HOSPICE

AND HAVE WORKED IN NURSINS HOMES AND BOTH GRAND MOTHERS HAD BILATERAL

MASTECTOMIES, NEVER ONCE SEEN ANYTHING THAT EVEN CLOSE TO THIS....I AM TRING TO

FIND A LAWYER TOO TAKE MY CASE ...THIS WAS NEGLECT ON MY SURGENS BEHALF....NANCY

I am in no way a surgeon, but looks to me something wasnt done

right. Maybe I dont understand, but I thought a bilateral mastectomy

was a removeal of the breast? These pictures do not no where near

look like the ones I have seen for that type of surgery. I even

looked on the internet at pics. The breast is usually gone with no

bumps like that. But again, I am no surgeon or perfessional to

judge. If it were me...( my opinion only), I would do whatever it

takes to make myself comfortable. Arent you uncomfortable and in

pain while waitressing? I know its hard to do, but I would get to a

reconstructive surgeon and get ALL your options on this.

Do you not have Medical Insurance? They should cover most of the

cost. You dont have to be a vain person to want something better

than what they gave you. I know it might be hard, but try not to

worry about everyone else around you and worry about what will make

you happy. Get the advice you need and the questions answered and

then go from there. I know you may not want surgery again or

reconstruction, but it might make you feel better in the long run.

Best of Luck
