Persico My Life, My Friends Poetry Submission 1-31-2007

This is a poem spontaneously wrote for a scholarship submission. There

wasn't a thematic or style prompt.

*****************************************

I have struggled through crisises in life

Surgeries, doctors, and social isolation

Elementary was cold,

middle school was when it was thawing,

and high school is warmth

No child would dare talk with me in Elementary

I was too weird, too different

I ate differently and I had a trache

I also had health aids

It was cold, winter was here

To make things worse,

I had a lot of stress in life

Surgeries, doctor appointments, physical therapy, hormone therapy

It never ended

The pressure was immense

After Elementary,

My social life was thawing,

Spring was here

I was learning how to socialize

But Middle Schoolers are idiots

And I couldn't relate

In Middle School,

I had no health aids

I only ate through a tube

I had a trache in 7th, but not in 8th grade

It was thawing

Summer is coming and Winter is Receding

High School is summer

I grew up in that time

I ate with three girls and their groups

, , Bre

They are my friends at school now

Bre is the brightest star in my life now

My life is in summertime and it will last forever, unlike the Earth

Now I am on growth hormone

Reaching for the stars

When I started High School,

I was 4 ft 3, now 5 ft 3

Graduation is coming

CSUN and Cal Poly in Pomona next

The rest of my life after

So are the ends to growth hormone therapy, testosterone therapy, and a back

brace

Summertime is here and it will last

Forever and ever

This is dedicated to my good friends in life. Although I didn't have much

support back in elementary, I now have , , and Bre to fall back

on. They are my buds now and forever. Along with Chip, , , Nick,

, and Maxwell,

you are in my heart forever

Hey Yuka/!

That was a wonderful, touching poem! It almost touched my heart in the end.

Thanks guys, I love ya guys (I meant as brother/sister love, learned that from

my old church group back then)!

You can summit that poem at some Reader Digest, or other Poetry clubs,

organizations, and they'll reward you, you'll even be famous too! Cool man!

Thanks for sharing, adios amigos!

What a beautiful poem ! I love the analogies with the seasons! What

imagination and talent it takes to come up with that! Yuka, you should be

proud!! Much love to you ! Thanks for sharing such a breath taking poem

, mommy to Meagan (CHaRgE) and 2 year old twins, and big brother

4 years, married to the best daddy in the world for 9 years!

The mention of my child's name might make me cry. Not mentioning my child's name

will break my heart. Unknown
