Guest guest
hello all, I am 44, dx on october 2006 with bilateral BC. had bilat-mastectomy on november and am on chemo now. the tumor marekt test shows my tumors are ER,PR-, but her2/neu+, p53strong. i have family history of ovarian and breast cancer. I would like to know if this her2+ is good or bad? i hear that these kind of cancer cells are more aggressive and have the higher risk of recurrence. but can respons to the treatment with Herceptin. I am really scared of being ER,PR- and Her2+!!! my first market test shows her2+ in right breast and Her2++ in left breast, but another market test done for being sure shows c-erb-B2 negative! and I thought that Her2 and c-erb-B2 were the same!!so how is it possible? thanks for answering. Guest guest
Well, you're asking the right questions. You've got it exactly right: her2+ is bad, because it's more aggressive, but it's good, because herceptin reduces the chance of recurrence by 50%. My understanding is that herceptin reduces the chance of recurrence to the same as an her2- tumor. I do not understand why you are getting conflicting reports, tho, so you would have to ask the doctor. What kind of chemo are you getting now? did you have chemo before surgery too? > > hello all, > I am 44, dx on october 2006 with bilateral BC. had bilat- mastectomy on > november and am on chemo now. > the tumor marekt test shows my tumors are ER,PR-, but her2/neu+, > p53strong. > i have family history of ovarian and breast cancer. > I would like to know if this her2+ is good or bad? i hear that these > kind of cancer cells are more aggressive and have the higher risk of > recurrence. but can respons to the treatment with Herceptin. Guest guest
Sounds as though you had the IHC test initially. Her2+ on IHC is considered negative and the ++ is a weak positive. You probably had a FISH test to confirm the status and that came up negative. Guest guest
Here is a site that explains both tests the IHC and the FISH. http://www.breastcancer.org/research_herceptin_050002.html Ruth > > > > hello all, > > I am 44, dx on october 2006 with bilateral BC. had bilat-mastectomy on > > november and am on chemo now. > > the tumor marekt test shows my tumors are ER,PR-, but her2/neu+, > > p53strong. > > i have family history of ovarian and breast cancer. > > I would like to know if this her2+ is good or bad? i hear that these > > kind of cancer cells are more aggressive and have the higher risk of > > recurrence. but can respons to the treatment with Herceptin.
