Guest guest
First let me say I am exhausted, so this will be short and sweet. Meagan had her brain surgery today (decompression for her Chiari Malformation). She was considered high risk for this surgery as her blood vessels run right where the surgeon would need to cut on the dura. The first half of the surgery was the opening of the magnum foraman. Then only if absolutely necessarary, the dura layer would be cut and a bovine patch put in place. An hour into the surgery, the surgeon put a call out to us, saying it was ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to cut the dura. I was sick! But, it went down as smooth as ever. No excessive bleeding (no transfusion even needed) and no leaking of the cerebral spinal fluid. The only downfall to the surgery is that Meagan is allergic to Morphine (she stops breathing), so managing her pain post op is tricky for the first hour. Once in the PICU, she had some respiratory distress due to her pain, but once Tylenol with Codein was administered, she slept and was pain free. She will remain in the PICU overnight, and have an MRI done in the morning to check for any internal bleeding or spinal fluid leaks. Once cleared by the surgeon, she will go to the general peds floor. After a couple of days there, if all goes well, she will be cleared to come home. My husband is with her tonight so I can be with the other two. I am just amazed how strong she is! It never ceases to surprise me! I know my details are sparse, but I am running on one hours worth of sleep for the past 38 hours! I promise to update tomorrow! I just wanted to say thank you for the prayers and good thoughts. , mommy to and Meagan(CHaRgE) 22 month old twins, (4 year old big brother) and married to the best daddy in the whole wide world () 9 years. I'm so glad this is behind you all, and you can think on all good things for the future. And thanks for taking the time to post, I've been waiting to hear the good news. You both did great, Mom! Love, in Ma.

I hope the next few days go as well as the surgery did, that her pain remains manageable, and that she's home and better than ever really soon!
